RAIN this weekend: Talk me down from the ledge!

I've had this trip planned for 3 months, and now the forecast is predicting 50% rain on Friday and Saturday. We're coming all the way from Atlanta... and since we're meeting some friends who bought a plane ticket, we can't reschedule.

It's been a long time since I was as CP when it rained, so I'm wondering how much it affects the rides... how long they shut down coasters... how long it takes to get them running again after the rain breaks... stuff like that.

Basically, tell me something good. I assume it'll have a positive effect on the crowds, for example.

Help me feel more optimistic about the trip!

50% chance of rain isn't too bad. It won't be an all day rain I bet. Even if it rains for an hour they'll get the rides back up and running and you'll notice shorter lines because people leave when it rains. If it starts coming down a little catch a show and wait it out!

The weather is going to be unsettled, but there's nothing at this point to indicate any significant, all-day rain event. In fact, it's the kind of day that could keep attendance down, while ending up being more dry than wet.

I was there two weekends ago when there was a 70% chance. It didn't rain at all. The lake makes it unpredictable.

I took my son and some of his friends to the park the past two Fridays. Forecast showed rain both days. Rained pretty much the entire trip on 9/7 and cleared up about 15-20 minutes from the park with no rain until we were driving out of the parking lot after close. Last Friday there was no rain. Both nights were great nites to be in the park.

Our presentation of weather forecasts has really improved over the past 20 years or so. 3D animated graphics, doppler 58 million radar, etc. Really does look good. Not sure our accuracy has improved much though.

We are planning on going on Sunday even though there is a chance of rain. We only live about an hour away, but because of other things this is our one and only chance to go for this year. I wouldn't worry about the forecast too much. If it does start to rain, head inside for something to eat or a beer. Or if you are near the big arcade near the front of the park, check out some of the really retro video games.

I've been visiting CP an average of around 10 times a year for the past 4 years (ever since I purchased a season pass). The days we choose to visit are actually planned based on bad weather, we look for days where rain is predicted because that generally means less wait time. I can tell you that I've never been caught in an all-day rain at the park; it would rain but it wouldn't last long. When it's raining, take the time to do other things, such as the arcade and the covered flat rides (like Cedar Downs). As the other users said, the crew usually has the big rides back up and running pretty quick (after the rain has stopped).

Of course, that doesn't mean anything because weather isn't based on what I've experienced, it does what it wants to. I'm just saying that for me, the odds of it raining the whole day has been pretty low.

I'm visiting the park this weekend too, so hopefully we'll only get a few showers here and there and benefit from the shorter lines that it generates. ;)

I think I still have flashbacks to when my 8th grade class trip to Cedar Point ended in the parking lot. We stepped out of the car and it was almost ankle deep.... never even entered the park and drove all the way back to Detroit.

I do remember it cleared up a couple hours later, though... so we should have stayed!

We are planning a trip at the end of this month.I sure hope that we don't get the weather you're getting. Nothing worse than walking around CP with chilly and wet weather.I am keeping my fingers crossed.

The better the weather during Halloweekends, the more insane the crowds get. A chance of rain, can be your saving grace this time of year. Even if it rains half the day, you will get more don in the other half than you would have gotten done in a full day with good weather.

Though, as a shareholder, I want the park to be busy all the time. :-)

I am driving up from Nashville tomorrow and this is my one trip this year.

I bought fastlane passes for Friday and Saturday, but that was probably a waste of money if it rains a lot.

I've heard it said on here that a bad day at Cedar Point is still better than a good day at work!

Last year I worked Dragster all summer/Halloweekends and just want to give you my honest opinion about the weather. 50% chance isn't bad, but ANY precipitation (trust me-it hurts when riding in even a mist) will shut down TTD so be sure to knock it out as soon as possible. Also, the winds are another factor to take into account. Dragster will physically not start if the winds are over 35, and they will also shut down raptor and magnum, just an FYI. Unless it's a complete washout, The rest of the rides will just simply go down to 1 or 2 train operations. If this happens, be SURE to get a fast pass as it will be your best friend and a great investment since you don't get to the park as often. Lines can be dreadfully slow with less capacity. Fastlane for this Friday will be a waste of cash especially if the forecast has rain predicted.

Already have Fastlane for Saturday... had to buy it in advance just in case it was good weather and packed like sardines.

Looks like the weather is constantly in motion, so I'm excited to go. Ride a ton on Friday, early entry both days as we're staying at Castaway Bay... should be a ton of fun.

Am I the only one who initially assumed the poster was referring to RAIN waterpark? I mean, I've heard it's not that impressive of a facility, but I wouldn't think being forced to visit would lead to suicidal urges...
