Railcar spotted, South Basin Parking Lot

TTD 120mph's avatar

Yeah, they probably wouldn’t take it out for a while. How many containers have been spotted? One? And it was gone the next day? Hmmm, intriguing......I wonder if CP has been sneaking containers behind our backs.

That could mean that they have more of them hidden somewhere!!!! OMG!!!

Soon....I know, you can’t wait for us young CP enthusiasts to go to school so we'd be off of PointBuzz, where we post all of our nonsense. Right?

OMG, it's a rail car shipping container. I guess the only thing coming from Europe to Sandusky is a roller coaster.

I think he is referring to a multi-modal container shipment. Sud is from Hamburg, Germany.

Hamburg Sud is a steamship line. The container is owned by the steamship line and they lease these containers to import or export goods.

The containers are not necessarily "from Europe". I work for a shipping company and we have hundredes of these in our yard. Basically, the container can come from overseas, get picked up by a trucker and transported to a customer, or, the trucker can deliver these to the railroad or bring an empty container to the yard.

This container is either empty and will be loaded and then transported elsewhere, or, it was loaded when it came in and dropped by a trucker. *** Edited 8/17/2005 11:08:22 PM UTC by Michelle B***

James K, are you saying that Cedar Point is now going to build that tallest toilet paper tower in the world????

;)

Don't forget about the revolving restaurant on top of that.

If you look at this site http://www.dorneypark.com/public/inside_park/rides/thrill_rides/hydra/galleries/

You will see that Hydras trains was brought in the same type of railcar container (second row, 6th pic). Maybe we are getting a floorless maybe not. But it was a thought.

Don't any of you worry, us kids will be back from school by 3:00 PM so we can annoy all of you. Some of you here act like we have nothing better to do then annoy you, really I don't think any of us try to.........

<Matt>
101 on Magnum and counting...

That's a good a point MF_Man. But I don't think that the trains would show up this early. Unless there hidding something from us. Exactly CP4eva'04, well said.

Exactly. Why on earth would trains show up before even any survey markings have been spotted?

It's going to be a special show hosted by Ty Pennington entitled, "Extreem Makeover: Roller Coaster Edition" They get 7 weeks to build the best roller coaster ever built. And just like on the show they have everything hiding and ready to go so they can get it done in the alloted ammount of time. :)

And CP4eva'04, I don't think you guys are trying to bother us... It just comes naturaly to you. :) j/k

Nice. I can just see Ty standing next to Kinzel screaming "Driver, move that... oceanliner?" I don't know what else might be big enough to hide such a ride.

"Driver, move that 500ft tall, 1,000ft long bus!"

No, if they were to do the Extreme Makeover thing to a park, it'd have to be somewhere janky. Boblo, meet Mr. Pennington... ;+)

There is no telling what might be in that container, and i would like to point out that it isn't unheard of for a park to buy a container of something. I know of one place that used to buy a railcar of potatoes at the begining of a season. However they were stored at a site away from the park and brought in as needed.

Now it doesn't seem likely that this container would hold anything as mundane as toilet paper. Especially considering the location. However the idea shouldn't be dismissed because it isn't something a park wouldn't do. Because while the singular McDonalds may not order a container of frys, the distributer for an area would. And an amusement park can definately compete with a region of fast food franchises when it comes to volume.
