let me rephrase my statement. at least it is not one of the open air gerstlauer trains last time I rode RWB I scraped my knee on the front part as for the one they are getting I will wait and see what differance it makes.
Awesome. I'm thrilled to see the ride logo on the front of the train. It makes the ride look a bit more menacing.
The train arrived just in time for this weekend, which is expected to be extremely busy. The Cleveland Clinic crowd that will be there Saturday and Sunday will certainly appreciate it if two trains are running.

Now you don't have to go all the way to Southern Indiana to have that train beat the crap out of you! :)

lol.
In the past I've never had a problem with the Gerstlauers. Granted, I am smaller than the average rider, but I've never experienced the displeasure associated with G-trains until riding Villain this year.
Most of my issues have more to do with the ride than they do the train, but I can't help thinking to myself that a PTC train could ride the poorly maintained track a little better than the Gerstlauers.

I don't think they're that bad either. Granted, Legend gives a lot of strong laterals, but I never found it to be that horrible with the Gerstlauers. As you suggest though, the Holiday World rides are well maintained.

According to the ride-ops, I was on the first public ride for the new train. They started it up around 11:00 this morning and had both trains running. No difference, the ride is still a complete junk pile if you ask me, but it's no different for those of you wondering.

I wish there was some differance with the train, to maybe make the ride a bit smoother!
Thrills Around the Corner!
I went on the Villain for the first time 2 weeks ago, went on it twice. Second car and the very back and I will never go on it again. It hurt sooo bad.
The Villian is terrible. Even in the front it is difficult to have a good ride. I have to hold on with all my might with fear for being bruised!

It's sad that Villain has degenerated so bad. I loved the ride it's first few years, but now as you said, riders have to work to avoid being beat about the legs and back. Hopefully next season will be better for Villain. With luck, perhaps they will complete all of the track work at once instead of turning it into a 3 season project.
Raging Wolf Bobs is far from being a junk pile though. The new sections of track are amazingly smooth and zippy. The turn above the station is still junk, but once that section of the ride gets re-tracked I'll have no worries about riding in the Gerstlauers (new or old).

I hate to hear that about Villain as well. When maintained in top shape (like when it opened), a lot of people thought it rivaled Ghostrider. I wish they could restore those days.

The good news is that with Cedar Fair in charge, re-tracking will be a five-year project on all of the wood coasters...but they won't take any years off, so once they get the coasters running right, they won't let them fall apart again!
Or at least that's the idea!

Who suspects that Raging Wolf Bobs went about 20 years without any track maintenance...
I know I'm not the majority on this subject, but I personally don't mind the G trains on RWB or Villain. RWB is a fun ride (better once the high turn next to the station is retracked) and Villain, in my opinion, is awesome, no matter the roughness. I went to the park last Monday and found that Villain in the second-to-last row is an awesome, air-filled ride. You really get thrown over the top of the lift and the drop after where the MCBR was supposed to go. Granted, PTC's would be better, but the ride is far from being unrideable, along with RWB.
On the subject of Big Dipper, it wasn't running all that great when I went on Monday. It wasn't rough at all (hard to be rough with all that padding) but it was really losing speed quickly. Everything after the turnaround was airless and slow. However, I think that most out-and-backs are like this. One week they'll be filled with awesome air, and the next they're a so-so ride, and the next they're back to being awesome. I visited Geauga Lake on Memorial Day, and the air in the front was so strong that the seat-belt was actually starting to hurt as it dug into my thighs. Big Dipper just seems to be a tempermental ride.
Getting back on the subject of the Raging Wolf Bobs, I rode it this year for the 1st time in years and was delighted! Unbelievable difference in the the track-work. Granted the Gerstlauer trains are a little rigid, but they are light years better than the old articulated trains that it was built with.
(OK please don't crusify me- PTC trains are wonderful too- and the G trains have been known to give me bruises on the leg from it's lap bars. But the old technology had to go. And most of the coaster that had articulated trains have either replaced them or have been removed- ie. Hurcules)
I remember joking with friends about how the peoples heads on RWB's looked like "bobbles" bouncing around the swooping turns. After re-riding it I was delighted to get AIRTIME on the crossovers and only 1 jaring turn. And this coaster went shooting up my list from "I'll never ride that piece of crap again to WOW I can't believe this is the same ride."
SF and CF have done an excellent job on the retracking of this excellent wooden coaster. I hope of the years it is maintained and kept up to standard. I look forward to the day when I can actually see both trains running on that ride. NO if CF could just tackle the retracking or oiling of Villian I would be a happy camper. PLease....
