hey guys! my name is brynn and i plan on applying for the summer '13. i am currently a freshman at the University of Missouri (go tigers!) and have a few questions.
1- how easy is it to get hired? i plan on applying right when apps come out. I've also worked at Six Flags for 2 seasons in attractions.
2- what are the chances of getting to work on one of the coasters? I selected 'Ride Host', but I do NOT want to get stuck working a child ride. do they switch you around a lot or do you usually just work on one ride?
3- lastly, stupid question, what do the uniforms look like? i've done some googling and it seems like red and navy polo shirts. is it still like this?
thanks so much.
1. As long as you apply early enough and aren't a crazy, there should be no reason that you shouldn't get hired. Applications should come out around the beginning of January.
2. I mean, there's always a chance of you getting a coaster. My first summer, I was contracted to Millennium Force. You'll probably see this posted a thousand and one times, but if you do get contracted to a smaller ride, give it a try. It's your crew that will make your summer a memorable one, not your ride.
3. Ride host uniforms are red and navy blue polos, navy shorts and white shoes.
During your phone interview with your area manager, they will ask you if you prefer adult or children rides. Tell them adult rides, but also don't be afraid to express that you would prefer a coaster. What coaster are you thinking about working?
As for what MillenniumSpork has said, the crew is definitely what makes your summer a memorable one. I was on a ride I didn't like with an awesome crew, a ride that I liked with a drama crew, a ride I didn't like with a drama crew and a ride I loved with an awesome crew. So as you can see, it all depends and is different for everybody. You do have the opportunities to cross train at other ride locations, so in your interview, you can also express how you like change of pace and would like to work other rides when staffing is low in those locations. Depending on your work shifts, you can also choose to work at another ride location that is low on staffing.
My main thing is, do NOT be afraid to speak up and talk to your manager or supervisors when you can't handle a situation or just have an issue you need to work out. I can't stress that enough.
On that note, good luck and I hope you have an awesome summer. I believe the applications went up online around December last year. You can message me on here if you have any other questions.
