Questions about staying at CP

Hey all what up? Me and my friend were thinking about applying for CP this summer and were going to live in the CP Dorms, but I gotta know a few things:

1) How expensive is the food usually, like on a per day basis?

2) How are the dorms, which ones are the best?

3) In the end, is working there the entire summer worth it?

Well as for food, you can spend as much as you choose to spend. The Employee Cafe is pretty inexpensive and Meijers has food that you can buy for you room and split the cost with your roomate. As for housing, I like the dorms, they are smaller than the apartments, but they have airconditioning.

As for if it is worth it?Yes it is very worth it. Last summer was the best summer i have had in a long long time and I am going back for another one!

Hmmm ok I'm going to attempt to answer your questions.

1) How much food is really depends on you and what you eat.  In the dorms eating is going to be a little more expensive then if you lived in the apartments and are able too cook.  The employee cafe is really cheap though and some of the food isn't bad.

2)The dorms are ok, they are like college dorms.  I lived in both Commons and Bayside and I like Commons(it had air-conditioning), but Bayside was cool cause I could actually cook a real meal.  I didn't know how much I missed having a real meal until I didn't get one every once and a while.  Also theres more people at Commons, so I spent most of my time there.  My one piece of advice though is DO NOT LIVE ON POINT... I had a few friends that did and that place is scary, sure they're convienient but it's not worth it, I'd rather wake up the extra hour earlier then live in them.

3)Yes it's worth it, there are times when your gonna get sick of it, I know there were plenty of times when I wanted to quit but I'm glad I stuck with it.  I made so many friends and the roommates I had became like my sisters.  Cedar Point is like a family, theres time that we can't stand eachother but theres nothing but love there.  I wouldn't trade the experiences in for anything in the world.  I love that place and I miss it so much, I can't wait to go back.  I'm just saying how it was for me though, and I'm sure a lot of people would agree or we all wouldn't be on this site.

I say give it a shot, you can't loose, your going to either love it or hate it as with any job, but your going to come out with some great stories and knowing some of the greatest people in the world.  It's a experience I'd recommend to everyone.

"What Ocean is that?"

Hey Jonathan -

As far as food goes, you can buy stuff at the grocery stores, whatever things you like to eat, although the Bayside Apartments are the only accomodations that have a full kitchen. I think it's a good idea to keep a stash of things like chips, pop-tarts or whatever in your room just in case, no matter which dorm you are in. If you want to get food inside the park, the stuff at the Employee Caf is pretty cheap, you can get a full meal, including a drink, for under $5.  Plus, you could also live out of the vending machines in the break areas (which I pretty much did last year).  You can get a pop for 35 cents, plus candy bars and sandwiches.  Depending on how much you want to eat, you could spend as little as $5 a day on food.  If you want three complete meals in the caf, you'd spend around $13 a day.

With the dorms, I can't give much of an opinion, since I have only lived in Bayside.  Bayside is a nice place to stay, has a good deal of room (compared to the other dorms) plus a kitchen.  If you come after May, however, you probably won't be able to get into Bayside.  The on-point dorms are very small, a little bit bigger than your average closet.  If you are concerned about having a considerable amount of room, and plan on spending most of your off-time hanging out in your dorm, then you'd probably be better off staying in Commons or Bayside.  Both places aren't too bad, and it can be a lot of fun, although if you stay off-point it will take longer to get to work, but that doesn't bother most people.

To answer your last question, is working there all summer worth it - definetly!  Rest assured, no matter which job you get, it IS going to be hard, long, and at times, frustrating, work.  But it is an experience like no other, I can assure you.  You meet so many great people, and can have more fun than you ever thought possible.  So I would suggest you and your friend give a try, it will be an unforgettable summer :)

Hey Jonathan, I agree with CP Princess and Pink Devil, you will have one of the best summers ever at Cedar Point. You will make some of your best friends for life at the Park. The Sky Ride crew last year was the best crew I have worked with in my four years, we were a riot, just ask some of the supervisors in Park Operations. On second thought, don't ask them too much, lol! By the way, where are you going to be working at, Jonathan?
Bart, I havent gotten my reply back yet, but if rides are all filled up, perhaps greeting and taking the pictures as people enter maybe....if not retail....but DEFINATELY not food service- too many bad memories with that lol...by the way, thank you everyone for your advice and feedback :)
My friend worked for Sneak Peeks back in 1998 Jonathan. She really enjoyed it.. :)

JDawg, yes, I'm sure you'll be able to get into the commons apt on May 3rd. Most of the employees are still in college and start around May 12th. You'll have a better pick too..

Some people say living on point isn't worth it, but I think it depends on what you want. I have lived in Cedars the past two summers. It's a roof over your head. Its cheap. If you don't mind less-than-stellar living conditions, and being farther away from Louies, you may want to consider staying on-point. I have decided that I will see if I can get a place off-point this summer. I have never lived off-point before, this time I'm just sorta in the mood for a change. I process in on May 14th. I'm going to try to get a place in Bayside, but chances for that are slim to none, so my second choice will probably be the commons dorms.
