Question from a new guy

I will be working at cp this summer as a ride op. I talked to chris (?) and he said I'd be receiving some info in the mail within the next few weeks. What is this info that i will be receiving? Will it say what crew i'm on? I'm excited and can't wait to find out where i will be working. Also what are the chances that a new guy like me will get to work a big ride like one of the better rollercoasters or power tower kinda thing?
Hi there! This is my first year working at CP as well, and when I got info in the mail, it consisted of my contract, a standard W-4 (that tells how many exemptions the government takes out of your taxes), and some other papers to fill out. It also comes with a sheet that talks about internet training, and a sheet with some other helpful info about starting out at the point. In all honesty, the papers they gave me haven't been nearly as helpful as all of the things I've learned by checking out Guide To The Point. I think that looking up info here is about one of the best things I could do before I make my big move! If you look through old forums, you'll find answers to about any question that you could ever imagine, so make sure you look it up before you post a question. As far as where you work- it tells you on your contract where you will be working and what days you move in and out, ect. Any other questions that you have, anyone on this forum will be happy to answer, or you can call Human Resources at Cedar Point. The people working the phones there are so nice and helpful! I don't know how much help I can be in answering your ride questions, but I'm sure someone here will answer your question in no time flat! Anyway, welcome to the crew, and feel free to add me to any messenger that you have. It would be cool to get to know you! My yahoo, MSN, and AIM messenger names are all DianaMarieMTV Feel free to write! Good luck with everything! -Diana

db, it's a common misconception that everyone has to start out as a sweep, or working on the carousel or something. This is in fact not true, and I know many people who have started out on coasters their first year, including me. On the other hand, I know people who have been working at CP for years and they are sweeps and working on the carousels. The size of the ride or the job has nothing to do with how many years you've been working, or how qualified they feel you are.

hey db.. the info you will be receiving will most likely be your contract and all of your hiring papers. the contract will list the ride location you will be working and your pay rate. as far as if you will be working a coaster or on my ride which is the power tower.. it all depends where they think you are needed. chances are random. last yr was my first season and i was lucky to get PT.

I'm a new guy and I got Wicked Twister... must not be that hard to get it if *I* managed to :)

I think its funny how everyone thinks that you have to be working at the park for years to get a bigger ride like Millennium, it was my second year there but that had nothing to do with it. People would ask me where I worked and when I told them Millennium Force they would say, "Wow, how many years do you have to be here to get something like that?" That would crack me up:) More then half our crew were first timers!

If I dont get out of here and find me a sweet bus station skank, I might do something disgusting that I might really regret!

I worked Millennium Force on Fridays during Halloweekends, and I had a friend come up to visit one Friday. She saw me on MF and said " WOW! You never told me you got a promotion!!" LOL, I just thought that was pretty funny.

Work in foods! You dont have to worry about cleanliness or any of that other sissy nonsense...lol
Not in area 3, my friend.
Hey there db....I am also a first year employee working this summer. I was asked if I wanted to work on Top Thrill Dragster!! hehehe. I ended up saying no to that cuz The lady who interviewed me said riders will be coming off every 30 seconds. *too fast for me!* lol!. It would have been very cool though to be one of the first ever on ttd, but I ended up with the millenium force ;). So, it can't be all that hard! :) :).

Hi Lindsey - welcome to Cedar Point :) This is kind of nitpicky, I know, but I got confused by your post - you made it sound like you are working ON Millennium Force, but then your siggy says Ride Photo? It does not really matter, I was just wondering!

Also, I don't think I could make it on TTD, either. Actually, I couldn't picture myself running any ride, but the TTD will have to be pretty darn quick. It would be awesome to be on that crew, you're right, but MF will always kick butt :)

it depends usually when you start. if you start in may or such- you will get stuck in kiddy kingdom. but it always has to do with where they dneed people. if they need someone at gemini, they will place you at gemini. it is a very random calculation. you can for a certain, but theat may not work. it depends on your dates. also if you don't want to work a kid area tell them you never worked with children, tell them your bad with children. then they will think twice about placing you there.
Thanks for all the input. I looked around on here and there are a few more questions i didn't really see answers to.

1. Is there any place to work out of play basketball near the point. Parks ... stuff like that.

2. I know that we obviously have access to the worlds greatest amusement park for free on our days off, but I was wondering if there are any other perks like jumping to the front of the lines and stuff like that. Can we get family discounts for brothers and sisters?

Yes...there's a basketball court right at Commons.

Don't we all wish we could jump to the front of the lines! Nope, the same ride line policies that apply to guests apply to us. Just make sure to take advantage of as many Employee Ride Nights as possible.

You do get 4 free tickets for family and friends after working a full month's worth of days. You can also purchase discounted tickets from Human Resources after those four are used up.

How often do they have employee ride nites? How exactly does that work also, do they only open up a few rides per night?

I won't be starting at the point until mid june, so i was wondering about my contract. Is the ride i've been assigned to set in stone or is there a chance that i would be moved to a different ride come June. Not that it really matters the Mine Ride is a great ride with plenty of shade.

They have ride nights once a week. Usually a just a coaster. Sometimes on Raptor ride nights they open Demon Drop also. They wait until the guest are out of the park (usually a good hr after the park closes). Mine Ride is usually opened just for Big Bash which is held in the month of August..
