Question for Jeff about Mean Streak??

Gormandize it! Or Whatever, just do something with it .

O.K. - I don't get that one...

Without upstops, airtime would have a whole new meaning!

Clair Hain......Good call guy!

I was super before Superstew was cool!

CCI or GCI would be the best bet and those flyer trains are sweeter then sweet.

Welcome back Magnum riders how was your ride?
ShiveringTim. GCI, PTC, Whatever . You know what I  meant. At least you admit they would help!  LOL!  Look , I've rode Blue Streak about a 100 times a year since1969. Something IS slowing it down on the back run, just after the turn around. It used to flat out fly through there. The back run was what had the famous air that us old guys rant about. The outside had less. Now it's reversed. Maybe you don't feel the difference over the years , but I do. I'm not trying to be a tool, but talking to me about Blue Streak now, would be like talking to Dan after they put Horse collars on Magnum's trains. He wouldn't be too happy they messed up his favorite coaster, and I'm not happy they messed up mine!  ;)

CP_Bound...I'm pretty sure is was 1993.  It was the last time I shed a tear, I know that for sure.  LOL

Wasn't the train retrofiting done AFTER they added the fin brakes (1994) ? I remember them removing the skids the same year Raptor opened. I remember riding in 1994 with the single positions, but there were fin brakes :( I believe the trains were done in 1996

Just as long as they dont put some of those ugly Morgans on it, I'll be happy. Removing the brakes might help too. :)

My Campaign For A 2004 B&M Flyer Has Begun!

I suppose if you like the feeling of being flung from the seat and smacking into the restraint then the old lap bars from the Blue Streak are nifty enough.

Beh! Though, just beh!1

"Hello, my name is *TIMMY!!*" [Ah LIBALOU LIBALOU TIMMAH!!!]
Laugh ye not too hard at my piddly stats. MF: 3; Magnum: 5; Raptor: 2 But the Iron Dragon is still my baby!
If understand that knowing is half the battle, but what's the other half, chicken

Josh is right...the station was butchered, the computer was installed, and the fin brakes were installed in 1994. At that time, apart from the addition of brake fins, no changes were made to the trains. One of the things that happened that year was that the brake run effectively became much shorter because they didn't install enough brake calipers. Unfortunately, the new station design and the overconservative programming on the computer meant that instead of slowing down on the brake run, the train had to *stop* on the brake run, a violent stop that could knock your teeth out if you weren't careful. Ultimately they added additional brake calipers to the brake run, restoring most of its original length, so that the braking could be more gradual. They also re-programmed the computer so that the coaster could more easily operate 'on interval', allowing the second train into the station as soon as the station was clear instead of waiting for the first train to get halfway up the lift.

In 1995, Train #1 got new lap bars in its lead car. These were the black double-bars, replacing the old yellow double-bars. I speculated that the other seven cars would get new lap bars for 1996. Unfortunately, I was almost right.

In 1996, both trains were butchered and the unpadded urethane high-back seats, seat dividers, and ratcheting lap bars were installed. The lap bars were installed incorrectly so that they would ratchet down all the way to the seat cushion, resulting in all kinds of problems.

In 2001, both trains got all new lap bars. The new bars are a different, stronger design, and they are installed correctly so that with the bar down all the way, it's still about 6" up from the seat cushion. Now if we could just get the soft seats back, the ride would be in good shape. There are still NO brakes between the top of the lift hill and the uptrack end of the brake shed, just the way Frank Hoover intended it.

Why does it seem like this ride is worked on every year, yet improvements seem to go unnoticed? CP does need to look into how this ride can become a top ten woodie again. I know tons of you love it the way it is, but tons of people hate it... that once loved it.
Thanks for clearing that up RideMan...So in effect, the butchering ( had to repeat that ) began in the '93-'94 off season ,( I'm assuming the brakes and computer were there at the start of the '94 season) and continued to be assulted untill '96.  So the '93 season was the last year for the original Blue Streak . That must be why I have '93 on the brain. My bad...CP_bound, Josh...You guys were right....See how easy it is to admit you were wrong.... COUGH *ShiveringTim* COUGH.

The only thing I disagree with is this...I would think if Frank Hoover wanted ANY additional brakes on Blue Streak , they would have been installed in '64.

Why does everyone think retracking would do that much help?
MS needs a lot more then that.  Brakes, reprofiling, trains, the end all is not in retracking.

I dont think anything is wrong with mean streak. If you have been to other parks such as six flags, and rode rides like "raging wolf bobs", or "the dipper" you will change your mind about mean streak being ruff. I am not saying that mean streak is the smoothst coaster in the world, but there are other coasters that are much ruffer than it.
