Question about working at the Point

Well if Cedar Point does have this so called power, they do not enforce it company wide nor is it a talked about policy amongst the majority of employees. I say this because in the 8 years that I have worked for the company, I have never heard of this policy and I was one of those supervisors that looked up, read, researched, and sought out every policy that there was.

Well, in Rides, it's a rule. And this rule will apply to Ken Jones, because he specifically said he wanted to be a part of Rides.

So like I and others have been saying, its not a Cedar Point (park wide) policy but rather a rides rule. This is why no one else had heard of it, thus leading us to all say its not a rule.

And someone told Ken that he could ride rides during break. But if he is Rides as he wants, he will not be allowed to. That's what I was saying. I didn't know it was a rule until this year, and if it were a rule for the entire park, it's not enforced that well at all or mentioned as much as it should be.

Oh I know I picked up on the rule I was just sharing one of my random stories. Sorry.

Look it up.

I'm not saying the rule is stupid or smart. I am just acknowledging that there is a rule. It's like my grocery store not allowing us to leave the store while on breaks. It's just a policy of that certain employers. They do have that power, you know.

I really can't find it. The only laws I can find about breaks in ohio are that you aren't required to have them if you're 18 or over.

I found some federal "suggestions" that any break less than 20 minutes I believe should be paid.

I know a few times when my ride was shut down to weather or mechanical, a person may not want to go on break for a 15, because they didnt want to walk in the rain and such. When a sup would come up and ask who was on break and someone would say they were taking their break there, the sup would make them leave. It has to be some kind of rule.

You were required to take your break in a designated break area, that was the rule when I worked there. Now if you took your 45 min break and changed clothes and rode a few rides during that time, I dont think you were breaking any official policy, I just don't think that you would have had enough time to do that and change back into proper uniform. Now if you did that on your 15 min break that might be a problem because you were not actually off the clock for that time. The 15 is a paid break the 45 is 30 min unpaid 15 min paid.

More then likely the situation there is that the Sup didn't want a lot of crew at the ride location, making it appear as if there were crew members doing nothing. That way if a member of management walked/stopped by, there was no one sitting around. The Sup was just making sure their butt was covered in case someone important dropped in. Its all about appearance.

^ Yah, that definitely sounds like a case of rides just being rides. It's all about CYA.
