Question About Thunder Canyon

Everybody says that whoever goes on Thunder Canyon will get soaked. Well I thought I remember when I went on the ride this summer that some people were coming off sprinkled or barely soaked. Was I seeing things or does everybody truely get soaked?

I've never seen anyone come off of Thunder Canyon any less than totally soaked.

I've ridden TC on two occasions where I did not get wet. Once was because the water falls weren't running (!?!??!!) and the other was just sheer dumb luck.

Expect to get wet. Sometimes you get lucky and miss any of the waterfalls and splashes. It's like that with any rapids ride. It's like a game of chance, and that's part of the fun.

I know I got through unscathed once. For some reason I got it in my head that you don't get wet on the ride and used that "knowledge" to convince one of my friends to ride. Well, as luck (fate?) would have it, we hit every single waterfall. He was not happy, as he didn't want to get wet and I had convinced him to ride.

I've also ridden it without getting wet. Funny story actualy. My sister didn't want to go on it because she said she didn't want to get wet. I convinced her that you had about a 50/50 chance of getting wet or staying mostly dry.

I convinced her to ride, I basrley got wet and she was drenched from head to toe. She was not happy at all. And even though it was about 15 years ago, she still reminds me of it. :)

ha ha ha ha ha!! It appears that a lot of us use that logic to convince people to ride those rides. I did the same thing to a friend on Kali River Rapids. "Only four people get wet." Well, she was one of those four. LOL!!

We didn't ride that 51 weeks ago when we were there. Even though it was a hot day (AK seems much hotter than any other park) neither one of us wanted to be soaking wet, so we skipped it. In fact we skipped all of Asia because it was just too warm.

Kali is an awesome ride, but way too short. If you're one of the four or so, uh, (un)lucky ones you don't just get wet. You get soaked.

I've been through and came off completely dry. I coasted right through the centre where the falls are at the end. There was a man and his daughter across from me that hit every one. That was a fun ride.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

I've seen many people that get off TC dry, or close to dry, but I seem to always be one of the ones that gets completely drenched. I think TC is a very nice rapids ride as it is quite long.

Kali is an awesome ride, but it is short and you don't get very wet unless you are one of the four riders that get soaked. I was so hot that day I was dying to get wet but I barely got a few sprinkles. Also, they were in the process of shutting the ride down for weather when I was on, so we got stuck at numerous places throughout the ride, including right under the flame part which made it even more hot. The best rapids ride I've been on goes to Popeye and Bluto's Bilge Rat Barges hands down. Non-stop excitement from beginning to end, and unlike some the rapids are what soaks you not the water falls. TC could have had a bit more rapids added to it.

Just don't hope to get off Snake River dry. :)

I have made it without getting more than splashed about half the time. Getting wet can sometimes be avoided by leaning one way or the other.

One year I went on Thunder Canyon on a Sunday. I got on TC with my friends and a family of four who were wearing their sunday best...a shirt and tie for the father and a dress for the mother. I do not think they knew how wet they would get. Anyways, my friends and I got a few splashes, but we missed the water falls. However, the family dressed in their best clothes got off the ride completely soaked. They did not seem upset, but they were very shocked! That's one of those Cedar Point experiences that I will never forget.

I had a stretch of about three years where I could not get wet on TC to save my life. Granted, I don't ride it very often, but this was still about seven or eight rides, with maybe only a little spray around my lower legs. People on either side usually got soaked, and I came out bone-dry. I started bragging about my superpowers... That was my undoing.

It seems that I just get a little spray, and then when we're coming up on that last water fall and the raft isn't turning fast or the right way, suddenly it turns just enough so I get the last water fall. If I haven't gotten wet by then, that is the one that always gets me.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

That is a good ride! Everyone in my boat was drenched, not just a lucky few.

It's always time for a Cedar Point road trip!

As an old TL, trust me, people didn't always get wet. Oh I miss the days of sending someone on a test ride in the AM, and throwing the waterfalls on right before they went through.

Question: Is Thunder Canyon longer or shorter that White Water Canyon at PKI?

I havent ridden TC in years, but when I was in high school we would take bets on who wouldnt get wet. It seems that there was always one or two seats that got "lucky" and didnt get one waterfall.

I never won.
