Question about employment

Hey guys, I've been wanting to be an employee at CP for a long time and I think this summer I will get my chance. I'll be 18 so I can live on site, but I've got a bunch of stuff I have to do at home (Florida) before I can get up there. To make a long story short, I would only be able to work for about a month at CP. Will CP hire people for only a month? (Probably early July until early August). Now, if they do hire people for only a month, do they hire **ride ops** for only a month, and if so, what kind of ride will I be getting? Is it possible or likely that if I ask for a coaster I would be assigned to one for a month? Help me out! Thanks!

Um, I don't think so. I have never heard of anyone being hired for just a month, other than HalloWeekends. But someone correct me if im wrong:)

I'm hoping to be a MF host; however I'm available to work virtually every day CP is open. I've got a good chance of getting that.

To have a decent chance at ride host, you need to work there at least 4 months. The more you can work till the end of the season when they need you more, the better your chances are.

I'll be sure to do that. I don't mind working long stressful hours, or dealing with people of all kinds.

One thing I do mind is spending long hours in direct sunlight when it's hot and humid out, but the MF crew definitely looks shaded enough for me.

I'm also planning on living in the commons dorms, so the parking bans will effect me. :(

Ok, I'm gonna take your advise and work in food...

Actully, foods was my number one choice... number 1 in the jobs I don't want to do.

I don't think 4 months is necessary..3 months is plenty for a good chance in my opinion.

Ok, so maybe I have high standards when it comes to probability. Also I worded it wrong. I was thinking more on the lines of someone who has already decided what they want, and the chances of getting that.

Yeah, I do not think it is too likely that you'll get hired for just one month - since they have to go through so much training with new employees, they would rather hire people who can stay for as long as possible.

Of course, this is not the word of God or anything :) Send it your application anyway, you never know. July-August is the busiest part of the season, so they might like having an extra hand during that time - I really I am not sure.

If it is at all possible for you to work any longer than a month, try to do it - but either way, apply and see what happens!

Believe me there are alot of things about working with and around food that is really too disgusting for this board.

Working at CP you will be exposed to alot of partying every nite. If you partake(I am the last one to make a morality judgement) too much you of course will be hung over the next morning. Ride Ops literally hold lives in their hands so they have to be alert; whereas when you burn a pizza or burger, you write it off and throw it to the birdies, bums or trash and you dont have to call the morgue!

I can safely operate and attend to any ride, also I won't let myself get into the position where my ability to do my job is impaired for any reason.

I have a healthy respect for the operation of rides, as they are heavy machines after all. In a lot of cases, you work feet from the ride and one wrong step and you've put yourself in danger. Ride hosts allow the guests move to and from the ride when it's safe to do so, make sure that the restraints are in the proper position and functioning properly before each ride, and operate the ride in a safe way while observing it for normal operation.

I know what I've picked up so far, but ’teachable.' I'm always open to learning something new especially if I can use it now or in the near future, I'm a very fast learner which will allow me to learn everything I need to know quickly, my patience is uncanny, I practice good hygiene, I'm alert, courtesy, and can retain a positive atitiude even during stressful situations. I think I'm qualified to be a ride host.

SteelMonsters - you sound like you would really make an awesome ride host. With that kind of attitude, I think Cedar Point would definetly be lucky to have you this season! When you have your phone interview, just tell them everything you said here, and you'll be hired for sure :)

See ya out there...
