Question about Disney Program!

sonyamarie's avatar

I'm very very interested in doing the Disney Program next spring. I know that a lot of you have already done it and can answer some of the questions I have.

1. Do you really earn college credit?

2. Is housing expensive?

3. Are the courses they offer General Education Courses like Earth science, psychology, sociology, History Etc.

4. Do you get to pick what division you get put into? (Rides, Foods, Entertainment Etc.)

Thanks! Replies are appreciated!

Disney College Program participates do have an opportunity to earn college credit.

Housing is from 80 to 105 dollars per week. It depends on the size of the apartment and the apartment complex.

No they courses they offer are not general education courses. They are Disney College Program courses.

On the application it will ask you what roles you are interested in. They will go by your choices like 1st operations which is rides and etc. 2nd choice food, and 3rd choice hotel.

1. It depends on your school. The course offerings are accredited by ACE, but it still depends on if your school will accept it or not.

2. I live in a Patterson Court (the newest complex) 3 bedroom. I pay 85$ a week.

3. They're general education classes, I'm taking one, experiential learning... Which is an education class.

4. They allow you to choose your interest level in the different areas, but even with that it'll all go to luck.

I have some more questions.

1. Will my financial aid, scholarship, and loan pay for the Program?

2. Is it a lot of fun? I've heard so many great things about it!

3. What is a typical work week like and how do your classes fit into that?

4. Do you get free admission to all of the parks? (epcot, Hollywood Studios, Magic Kingdom)

5. How many months are you there for?

1. No. You CAN use financial aid for the program, but the $300 down payment is due when you accept your position with Disney. $200/$300 will go toward your first two weeks of housing payment.

2. It's what you make of it.

3. CP's (College Programs) will work at least 30 hours per week. It varies by the season. The hours depends on your work location. For example, I work at Space Mountain, which is in the Magic Kingdom. CP's will usually always close or work the late / ****ty shifts that no one else wants. An example of a shift is that today I work from 17:00-23:45 (one of my not-so-bad-shifts) but on the other hand on Saturday, I work 22:00-2:00.

4. Yes. The water parks are an up charge during peak season though.

5. Depends on your program. I'm just a spring CP, so I'm there for approximately five months. If you're spring advantage, you'll be down there for much longer. If you do get spring, you can always extend your program to be eight or even twelve months.

I did the fall advantage program back in 2007. Which was from May-Jan. I took the Marketing You Course that course was fun. I really enjoyed the Disney College Program.

Yes you do get free admission to all of the theme parks.

You can except to work between 30-40 hrs per week,

I'm right there with ya sonyamarie! I was offered a spot in the program this fall and wasn't really sure what to do. I ended up accepting the offer to work in Merchandise for $7.67/hour. I process out of Cedar Point August 31 and fly to Orlando September 4, and check in at Disney the 5th. My program goes until January 4, 2013

When did you apply Marc? and was Merchandise your first choice?

I had signed up to received an email for when they were looking for recruits. I submitted my application on January 24, completed the online interview a few days after, completed the phone interview January 30, and was offered the position this past Wednesday.

Merchandise was not my first choice. I told the interviewer that too. I wanted to try something else since I've been in retail for five years, I wanted to expand my skill set. But that's what I ended up getting. I figured they chose me for Merchandise because I won't need too much training.

Military time, that would be 10 PM to 2 AM. I believe with the extended hours they do for resort guests, the Magic Kingdom is sometimes open until 2 or 3 in the morning.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

Disney uses military time on cast members schedules and for clocking in too. 2200 is 10pm 2 is 2am. 2400 is 00 midnight

2300 11pm

2200 10pm

2100 9pm

2000 8pm

1900 7pm

and so on...

It can be that way, but there are other people who are still full-time students while they're down here. I'm taking 9 credit hours while I'm down here, so I'm not QUITE full-time.
