Question...

Ok... I am planning to work at Cedar Point after I graduate High School (2004). But... I will only be 17 at that time (Birthday in October). I know I can live in housing there, but I was wondering if any of you know if I can be a Ride Op, or other positions that require you to be 18?

Thanks!

Ok, the Cedar Point website goes both ways. One part says they only offer housing to people 18 and older but another part says that if you're 17 and a high school graduate, then you can live there. I always thought it was the latter that was correct. As for being a ride op, you must be 18 to be one.

Its 18 or 17 and have graduated from high school. But you do have to be 18 to be a ride op. You can work in foods, and games
You can work in Admissions, also! (which is a fun place to work, I might add!)

I got an e-mail from Cedar Point that did say I COULD be a ride op if I was 17 and graduated.

Only on certain rides. Last year there was a girl on Demon Drop, adn when they found out she was only 17 they immediately put her on the train. I guess that little bit of difference makes alot of differnce, who knows

Answer...

I've heard that if you're 17 and want to work rides and are going to turn 18 sometime during your employment (i assume it works better if your birthday is close to your start date) you can be put on the train and then transfered when you do turn 18. And i think it's a state law that says something about minors operating machinery? I dunno...but yeah, i'm sure it's got something to do with liability.

YOu beat me to it Jeff.....

I hate topics with this headline....

If I had known....
I don't know much about what the state laws says, but I remember an instance last year at PKI when I was on the carousel and the people operating the ride didn't look like they were any older than 16.

I'm pretty sure it is a Cedar Fair thing about you having to be 18 to work rides. I'm pretty sure Six Flags lets 16 and 17 year olds work their rides. Honestly, I like the way CP does it. There are plenty of other positions for younger people to work where they are less likely to have to deal with angry guests, crew dynamics/drama, and other things where the maturity factor comes into play. I'm not saying that there aren't 16 and 17 year olds that COULD handle it, but in general, I think the 18 year old rule is a good thing.

Actually.. State of Ohio says you have to be 18 except under certain circumstances... I'll have to look it up again...

Here is the offical answer I just (bout 1 min ago) got from Cedar Point:

As long as you will have graduated from high school, you would be eligible to apply for any position with a minimum age requirement of 18.

I am most interested in Roller Coasters, specifically.
