I think it has to do with the angle of the dangle, in proportion to the... ;)
But seriously, I think that the trainlet being on the twisted heartline section of track makes the b column appear to be exaggerated in how much it is "stadiumed", which threw me off initially.
However, after (on your suggestion) referencing the harnesses (harni?), its easy to see.

To me, it looks like the horizontally-tiered seats may just be an optical illusion.
That's one hell of an illusion to appear in every picture that is posted.
I could understand if we only have one angle to look at, but at multiple angles you still can see some differences in spacing.

I think the seats appear lined up in some pics and THAT is the optical illusion. Like most people said, the gap between shoulder harnesses is definitely different.
It's really hard to tell in the train rendering on CP's website, but it looks like the gap is there too. Stupid angle of the rendering. :)
What about this angle

I don't think this is any better though.
The seat set-up is not anything new.
Intamin has been building some of their "megacoaster" trains with wider rear seats since the original Superman: Ride of Steel opened at Six Flags Darien Lake back in 1999. See this picture for reference:

As for harnessed trains, this would be a first. And while the trains did receive a bit of a redesign for Maverick, I just don't see any proof that the seats are spread farther apart in rear rows. *** Edited 2/7/2007 1:45:03 AM UTC by LustyLil***

You don't need to ride in them to see the difference. Look at the difference in the space between the seat backs from the front to the back. Also, look at the difference in width from the edge of the front seats to the side of the train and the back ones.
Those are definitely similar to Maverick's.

I hope Jason doesn't mind a link to his website, but the pic from East Coaster clearly shows the rear rows of seats on Maverick further apart. You can tell from how close the seat is to the edge of the train.
