Pull-Through Pics Posted

I know what you were pointing out, the SEATS look disproportionate in that shot, almost like the 'a' row is lined up, but the 'b' row has the "lateral stadium seating". But I think the back rows are slightly out, although maybe not as exaggerated as that pic would make it seem.

I think it has to do with the angle of the dangle, in proportion to the... ;)

But seriously, I think that the trainlet being on the twisted heartline section of track makes the b column appear to be exaggerated in how much it is "stadiumed", which threw me off initially.

However, after (on your suggestion) referencing the harnesses (harni?), its easy to see.

That's how I first noticed it. I saw the large gap between the shoulder harnesses and knew it wasnt normal. I'd say it's a good 1ft gap.
But I know what you meant dj, the angle does make the "b" seats look disproportionate.

To me, it looks like the horizontally-tiered seats may just be an optical illusion.

That's one hell of an illusion to appear in every picture that is posted.

I could understand if we only have one angle to look at, but at multiple angles you still can see some differences in spacing.

As it turns out, I did check all of the pull-through pictures, but none gave a view of the train that offered any type of definitive information.

But thanks anyway for that incredible insight, Craig.

^I won't even ask.

And you're welcome DJ. :)

We are still talking about seat spacing here, let's not get to excited.

There's a pretty big difference between excitement and annoyance.

I think the seats appear lined up in some pics and THAT is the optical illusion. Like most people said, the gap between shoulder harnesses is definitely different.

It's really hard to tell in the train rendering on CP's website, but it looks like the gap is there too. Stupid angle of the rendering. :)

What about this angle

I don't think this is any better though.

JuggaLotus's avatar

Its not.

There is really just that one shot as the train leaves the heartline roll where it is most visible. All the other shots don't give a really good view of the separation.

Tim, I thought about the train renderings and took a look at them and I dont think they show the gap.

The seat set-up is not anything new.

Intamin has been building some of their "megacoaster" trains with wider rear seats since the original Superman: Ride of Steel opened at Six Flags Darien Lake back in 1999. See this picture for reference:

As for harnessed trains, this would be a first. And while the trains did receive a bit of a redesign for Maverick, I just don't see any proof that the seats are spread farther apart in rear rows. *** Edited 2/7/2007 1:45:03 AM UTC by LustyLil***

^ Those seats are the same width apart in the back. They are the same style as Millennium Force and Dragster they are just higher in the back.

No - they aren't the same as MF or TTD. When you ride in them, you notice a definite difference.

You don't need to ride in them to see the difference. Look at the difference in the space between the seat backs from the front to the back. Also, look at the difference in width from the edge of the front seats to the side of the train and the back ones.

Those are definitely similar to Maverick's.

Yes they are very similar. I didnt know that SM:ROS had already implemented that style of seating. It appears that the other 2 ROS's have them as well....though they stop at ROS at SF America.

I hope Jason doesn't mind a link to his website, but the pic from East Coaster clearly shows the rear rows of seats on Maverick further apart. You can tell from how close the seat is to the edge of the train.

This means that they must have designed the fan to fit the length of riders arms in the second rows......though that's kind of obvious now....
