Pros and Cons

I keep hearing things about housing, and right now i am really confused. This will be my first year and i will arrive on monday, and i am not sure what i should pick for housing. So can someone please give me the pros and cons of housing.

Thanks

Since i've never lived there before, I dont know 100%, but I've been stressing over where to live as well, so I've talked to ALOT of people about it...heres what i've come up with. (i'm assuming your a guy, I'd be kinda scared of bigtyme the woman)...

Cedars (on-point) -
pros = get to work in 5 minutes, next to employee cafeteria. cheapest
cons = old, nasty, dirty, gang-bang showers, power shower hour, naked foreigners (spelling?), bugs, NO ac, not close to the bars or really anything, besides work.

Bayside apts (these seemed to be the favorite for a while)
pros = "private" bathroom, kitchen, more space than cedars, living room, closer to bars
cons = 8 people, 1 toilet. no AC

Commons apts
pros = 2 bathrooms, kitchen, AC in the living room (NOT in the bedrooms though), big rooms, close to bars
cons = 15 roommates, no AC where you sleep

Commons dorms (recently has taken over as the favorite place to live)
pros = newest building, less nasty than the rest, AC!!! (maybe I should list that twice?) AC, close to bars, lockers
cons = no kitchen, community bathroom (but with private showers in it, so its not really bad) costs the most.

I think thats about all I can say on them. I've talked to alot of people and everyone seems to have a different opinion. If you want a kitchen, pick an apt. If you can't live without AC, pick commons dorms. If your moving here from a cardboard box, pick cedars (I supposed that it'd be better than a box, and I guess that $8 a week ya save would be nice too). And to let you know, I still have not picked where I want to live, its tough.

Just to make some clarifications... I wouldn't apply the terms "nasty" and "dirty" to just Cedars. If you get roommates who are slobs, your apartment will be nasty and dirty real quick no matter where you live! ^_~ And I assume Cedars is cleaned before everyone moves in just like all the other housing... It's just a very old building and needs remodeling badly.

Yea, when your roomates attack all of your personal belongings with olive oil, things get nasty very quickly. I have lived everywhere off-point, and the commons dorms are my favorites. Fewer roommates (I went an entire month alone) There may be no kitchen, but in the aparrtment I used the kitchen once. The bathrooms are cleaned daily. The apartments bathrooms are kind of yoru own responsibility. Once in a while they get mopped. The AC sold me. Live a summer on a plastic mattress that is too thin to hold a sheet for one hot summer and you want that air conditioner BAD. It may cost more, but, it's still cheaper than a real apartment right. :)

I have to agree about the roommates....I could handle living anywhere at Cedar Point, but i had 3 terrible roommates. One tried to kill herself and the other two were thieves (ok so they stole a really annoying talking clock but it wasn't mine to begin with....if had I would have been kissing the feet...but it wasn't mine)

One tried to kill herself? Wow, CP drama to the extreme...!

Anniebelle - that alarm clock was annoying. Nights when I had to pass out with Abby in your room, that was the most frustrating part of sleeping in there. Hehe

I really didn't mind the commons dorms. Except they are really SMALL. If you plan on using the room to simply sleep and get ready for work then you'll be fine. However, parties, company and sleep overs (fellow CP'ers of course ;)) will be extrememly hard to pull off. The cleanliness as someone already mentioned too will depend on your roommates, I had my room all to myself so that was not an issue! It is also very noisey (for some reason people think the hallway is the perfect phone booth at 3am so you get to hear ALOT of foreigners phone calls) As someone here already mentioned, it is close to Louies, close to the bus and close enough to Bayside and Gold so you can hang with others there. The showers and bathroom could get DISGUSTING-my recommendation is to get up as early as you can with disinfectant (for the stall) in hand to take your shower before everyone else. I know I loved being one of the 1st ride ops at CP, eating breakfast early ($4.00-chow down!! :)) and walking around the empty park alone.
Sigh.....makes me miss working there! :(

Look here Short....lol....I know the clock was annoying....I used to have one and I would literally knock it off the light i had it setting on my dorm room at school. THE THING WAS INDESTRUCTABLE!!!!!! LOL But that clock at CP was my aunt's and not mine. Had it been mine I would have thanked them. Believe I would have....

Oh no, I'm not saying that I took the clock or anything. I was just saying that that was the most annoying thing of passing out in your room (thanks for letting me crash there though :-) ). I'm sorry that it did get taken though. I'm working Mantis this year, so you better come visit me, okay?

Although I am sure that the Cedars has its' share of devoted fans it was a rats nest in 1980! The bugs and other stuff were there then.

It does have alot of history and thats what photographs are for. I am not sure what the reasoning would be however for tearing down a still useful however nasty building. I just am thankful I never spent much time in that trash can.
