Get a grip... there's a huge difference between challenging an opinion and saying someone isn't entitled to their opinion. Don't confuse "I disagree with you" with "your opinion is wrong."

"As far as I can tell it doesn't matter who you are. If you can believe, there's something worth fighting for..." - Garbage, "Parade"

Jo you are always so sensible and right, especially here. Although, I am MALE I think your approach is correct. Millennium Force Girl unless the OB-GYN stated the woman shouldn't ride period, there is likely no harm to a fetus in the womb on MOST rides. Certainly, not to a fetus less than five months along. Of course, you stated it was just your opinion and I can respect it, although I may not agree with it at all.  BTW, Catherine has ridden MF and a lot more forceful rides in her lifetime...so she understands the forces of these rides. She was just stating that some people are taking the pregnancy thing a little too personal....ie. abortion vs. non-abortion. She would clearly use common sense on the rides, if she was pregnant.

Jeff (without making this a war of words) when you make the statement...Is that your "expert" medical opinion?" I think it is a lot more than a challenge of someone's opinion. It is sarcasm! It is a total disrespect for someone opinion. Had you left this one statement out of your post, I would not have had any problem with it, since it would have been your opinion. (I know, I know...it is your board and you'll do what you like....) JUST VOICING MY OPINION.

Did anyone say that a pregnant woman should "lay around with her feet up all day getting fat for 9 months to give birth to a healthy baby." Don't think so....I think that people were just stating their OPINIONS as to what is safe and not safe for an unborn fetus. By all means, go out, exercise, go for a walk, but do you want to up any risk that a child might have, just for a few thrillful moments?

Well, gotta put in my 2 cents worth. *I* certainly didn't sit around while I was pregnant. You'd be amazed at what a healthy pregnant woman can do. And I see nothing wrong with riding coasters in the very early stages of pregnancy, although I would still leave it up to a doctor's opinion. Just like others, I rode coasters before I found out I was pregnant. Afterwards..well, CP was closed by then. But regardless, I wouldn't ride an intense ride or coaster after the 12th week. That's just me. I wouldn't want to take a chance.

I would avoid riding Mean Streak. This has nothing to due if you are pregnant or not, I just though I would point that out ;-].
When I found out I was pregnant, the first thing I asked my doctor was if I could ride coasters and whatnot. Although, I wouldn't have ridden anything, I figured it didn't hurt to ask(it was early mid June and we had reservations for CP in mid July).  The answer was "No."  Although he quantified it by saying there probably would be no danger in it, he basically said better safe than sorry.  He did say however, that water slides would be fine.  Go figure.  So, for the first time in God knows how many years, we didn't go to the Point that year   I then realized after figuring out the conception date, I had been pregnant while visiting Universal Studios and Animal Kingdom.  Now I don't know about the rest of you, but I think you get thrown around a lot more on Back to the Future than on most coasters.  Needless to say, I had no problems and have a beautiful 2 year old daughter, who is on her way to being an enthusiast also.  But boy did the summer of 98 suck.

I went to Cedar Point during the summer of 1998 and during my 2nd trimester in pregnancy with my 1st born daughter. I asked my Dr ahead of time before going how she felt about me riding the rides, including the coasters. She said that as long as I fit in the restraints properly and comfortably, then to go for it and enjoy beings that maybe my last trip up there for awhile, without strollers and diaper bags in tow anyhow. I asked her if there was any danger in hurting the unborn. She reminded me that that baby on board was surrounded by a protective sack of water and that if anything, baby would more than likely be comforted by the extra movement/activity from the ride, in the womb. I took her advice in stride, made the trip up to CP with my husband one sunny Saturday AM. (I was 5 1/2 months along)..I rode everything, including the Power Tower, the Magnum, the Gemini and the Raptor. I carried very small for the most part and didn't have any problems fitting into the restraints. My biggest complaint was the sweltering heat that day and the fact that in order to get a drink to keep hydrated in line, it was gonna cost me $3 for a bottle of water!! LOL. As far as being questioned by park employees. I might have been asked by one or two if I was expecting and if I was under the okay of a Dr to be riding.. Or maybe I willingly told them <?> but never was I turned away or told that I could NOT ride because of my condition.

Needless to say my daughter was born right on time and without any complications. I had a realatively normal pregnancy and delivery and in the end, a very healthy little girl. (Not to mention, probably the coolest, no BS kinda OB/GYN Dr in NW Ohio.)

By no means do I suggest or recommend that any pregnant woman run off and do as I did just because I got away with it. I would strongly urge you to ask your Dr before taking the decision to go to Cedar Point (or any amusement park) and ride the rides, into your own hands. I just thought I would share my experience with everyone here on the boards. I guess the answer to the original question could be alot different today than it was back in 1998. Does the park still allow a pregnant woman to ride? That I don't know for sure, but I think so. My hubby and I were just up there on Sweetest day (10/15/05) and we saw a few pregnant women standing in long coaster lines. I mean no offence to anyone when I say this, but as the rate of sue happy people rises, the rules and regulations get tighter and stricter and all because of the way the law books and lawyers have things written. Now days if you don't have your ass covered, someones liable to come along and kick it right out from underneath of ya. Sucks but thats just the way it is. Thanks for reading my two cents worth. Have a great day!!

Thread necrophelia!

I could be wrong here... don't quote me.

Acording to the park rider saftey guidlines I believe women who are expecting are advised to not ride anything other than the train, giant wheel, and carrousell (in a stationary seat).

Water, or pop in the machines was NOT $3 in 1998. In fact, back then, I believe it was only $2 a bottle.

My wife was pregnant all this past summer. We went to the park for opening day plus several other days this season. We went to the doctor a few ays before opening day and asked his opinon of riding rides. He told us that with her only being 5 months along at the time it probably would not hurt anything but the park policy may frown on it. He added that if we did ride to be very careful and not much past the 6 month mark. He said that no studies have proven that rides harm unborn childern. It all goes back to common sence. Having said all of that, my wife only rode the easy rides that she felt safe with. Just three weeks ago, we took our 3 week old son to CP for the first time. He was born Sep 13 healthy as a horse.

Good probability.. My mistake. Thank you for correcting me on the price

This is very interesting to read as my wife Cindy is expecting on Valentine's Day. We were at the park this past friday to enjoy a hopefully dead park at Halloweekends. Seeing that she's roughly 5 months pregnant my wife asked her doctor if it would be okay for her to go through the haunted houses, which her doctor didn't see any problem with it as long as you weren't getting thrashed around. As far as coasters go, Cindy wasn't even considering riding them.

To our surprise the signs for the haunted houses and the Fright Zone advised pregnant women not to enter! This made Cindy a little nervous about going. She ended up walking through the house and trail with her arm over her little belly. I don't think she'll be going through those again anytime soon.

Although looking at when she concieved our baby has ridden a TON of rides because she was unaware that she was pregant. Based on our sonograms everything looks normal so it isn't a problem. However, a woman in their 3rd trimester trying to ride a coaster is probably not a good idea. But I'm going to let the woman make that decision on their own

My nephew has rode TTD and MF, and he's not even 2 yet. :)
