Pregnancy at CP...

Just curious, what are the rules for pregnant women at CP? Are there certain rides you can/cant ride? Or are all rides forbidden?

Pregnancy is usually included in the "don't ride if you know you'll die on this ride" clause...alright it's not named that, but I thought I'd be original. :)

Actually... most of the rides advise you against riding if you are "with child".. Simple rule people.. play it safe...

I'd pretty much stay off the coasters and most spin rides..but i guess it really depends on the person and how far long you are..best rule would be to ask your Dr.

I would just think, would you take a 1-month old baby on this ride? Probably not. Just common sense, that's all. I think most rides have a warning advising pregnant women not to ride. I think you can also get a list from Park Operations or someplace.

Wouldn't it be cute if baby junior grew up to be a speed demon thanks to some friendly encourgagment in utero?

For some reason, I think that things wouldn't quite work out like that. Brain damage is more likely... HEY WAIT A MINUTE! Isn't that what makes us into speed demons? I guess you're right! :)

As a woman, I think that it is totally irresponsible and selfish for a pregnant woman to ride a ride that has signs posted....they are there for a reason. This summer, we had a pregnant guest (probably about 5 or 6 months along) get in the train (Millennium Force).....I was floored! I couldn't believe that she would put her unborn childs life in danger for her own enjoyment on a ride....

Lighten up, unless the coaster is real jarring or you have a high risk pregnancy it isn't going to hurt the fetus.

Is that your "expert" medical opinion?

Women who smoke, drink or ride amusement rides while pregnant are not starting their parenthood very responsibly, and I find that irritating because quite frankly I the child has no choice in the matter.

I agree with Amanda and Jeff!  A fetus is not supposed to be subjected to the forces of a rollercoaster or flat ride!  Not to mention the restraint system squashing and all of that.

I do believe our ride admission policy cards for almost every ride list pregnancy as a condition under which one cannot ride.  The best way to find out for sure which ride this applies to would be to check the Rider Safety Guide, which can be obtained at Park Operations, Town Hall or the Resort Entrance Gate.

I am pretty sure the park cannot refuse to let a person ride if they are pregnant....though it is complete selfishness if a pregnant woman chooses to do so, IMO.
At Geauga Lake back in 1988 or 89, there was a woman who PURPOSELY rode all of the coasters several times throughout the course of the day so that she could induce labor.  Sure enough, she was laid out in a picnic pavilion and gave birth right there in the park with the assistance of the park nurse.
Fortunately, the baby was fine...the park even gave the baby a lifetime season pass!  But, I think it was horrific for the woman to do that and if I had my way I would have slapped her silly.

I am guilty of riding coasters while pregnant. In 1 instance it was because I didn't know I was preggy. In another I was less than 3 months. At that time I was going to PKI and asked about being pregnant. Their park ops stated something like "it is RECOMMENDED pregnant woman don't ride and they left it up to the individual". As far as damage to the fetus, since the fetus is in water my guess was it would probably be having a better time then it's Mom was. I was not that far along with either pregnancy and if I had any worries of hurting my babies I wouldnt have done it. Period. My kids are fine :) My guess would be that if a pregnant woman asked her ob/gyn about riding coasters she would get several different answers, and do not be surprised if one of them is "yes". As a ride op I was NEVER told I could keep a pregnant woman from riding, and admit there were some woman I couldnt tell if they were pregnant or just..well, you know. However on Raptor crowd control last season this woman came to me with her OBVIOUS pregnant belly (my guess would put her at least 6 months along) and asked me "Miss, is this ride hard on your stomach?" I looked at her and said "this ride is very hard on your stomach, you cant ride this!" And she didn't ride. Some people are just STUPID (and parents to be which scares me even more!)

IS THAT YOUR "EXPERT" MEDICAL OPINION??? Geez, Jeff maybe we ought to add M.D. after your name besides webmaster. Every post is just someone's opinion and as you have said to me and others in the past it is rude and obnoxious to criticize one's post at this site and CoasterBuzz. Everyone is entitled to their own opinons.

Most people should use common sense while pregnant. (Jo is a good example of what should or shouldn't be done.) It doesn't mean they shouldn't ride, it just means they should use common sense and be careful depending upon circumstances of the ride and their pregnancy. If we left it up to every right-wing nut and pro-lifer out there a woman wouldn't do anything except sit at home while pregnant. Let's try to be civil here okay???

Like Jo, I also rode while pregnant, both before knowing I was and at about 6 weeks. Interestingly enough, I had a conversation with another woman at Stark Raven Mad about riding while pregnant right before I found out I was expecting. She was both pregnant and riding, but pointed out to me that she was only riding a coaster she knew very well and wasn't about to try the new coaster since she had no idea what it would do to her body. Which is why I ended up only riding two things, neither of which was Millennium Force, when I went to the Point. I don't think I would have done even those, except I was with a good friend who knew I was a coaster nut and didn't yet know I was pregnant. I broke down and told her when she called me a coward for not wanting to ride the Force.
correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt the "baby" no bigger than a pinky nail at 2-3 months?

catherine....have you ever felt the forces on any of these rides? I'm sure that there are plenty if things that could happen to a feuts if put under these conditions....now I'm not saying that I'm an expert...but can't a woman wait a max of 9 months to ride a ride and just not put her child at risk??  (I mean...I think that a new life is a hell of a lot more important than the 2 minute thrill that you experience on a ride) I think she can wait...

There is NOTHING worse than:
someone who has never been pregnant giving their "expert" opinion
A MALE who can't carry a baby voicing THEIR "expert" opinion

I did alot of things some people could NOT believe I was doing when I was pregnant (until the day I went into labor mind you!)
Rode horses - including jumping
mowed my lawn
painted the ceilings of my house
excercised
carried heavy stuff

NONE of these things were frowned upon by my DOCTOR-also I might add I gained a MAX of 16 lbs with my pregnancies and fit back in my "normal" clothes 2 days after giving birth!

I can not imagine ANY pregnant woman would put her fetus, potential human being, child, what ever YOU choose to call it under any danger. But I also am a STRONG believer that a pregnant woman does not have to lay around with her feet up all day getting fat for 9 months to give birth to a healthy baby.
When I rode coasters, was NOT that far along, and I certainly would not ride if I was more than 4 months. If it was selfish for me to ride then SOO sorry but that was MY choice.
Again----MY choice!!

At Wet'n'Wild in Vegas there was a woman 8 months pregnant that went on the royal flush (a dual spacebowl) and the lifeguards said nothing.
