Pre-Recorded Safety Spiel

Does anyone think GateKeeper will have a pre-recorded safety spiel? It kind of seems as though Cedar Point has shied away from this method but I really love the old Knott's spiels that play at Silver Bullet and Xcelerator and would like to see one at GateKeeper.

Sit upright, hold on tight, and enjoy your ride!

I don't believe they will have a pre-recorded spiel because as mentioned CP has stayed away from them. I think the "human spiels" keep it personal and add some fun while waiting in the station.

Yeah, I do recall a year around maybe 2006 or so where they tried to do more pre-recorded spiels instead of live spiels, and everybody here hated them. I also remember them getting horribly out of sync with the ride dispatch cycle on rides like Iron Dragon of all things.

Its too bad. I loved the pre-recorded spiels. Iron Dragon and Millenniums were my favorite!

Welcome back riders. At this time unfasten your seatbelt. When the train comes to a complete and final stop a ride host will be around to unlock your shoulder harness. Exit to your left, and enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point, America's Roller Coast. Oncoming riders for your safety and the safet--READY--r riders, please listen carefully to these instructions. When the gates have opened, you may enter the ride. Plea--READY READY--ing forward in an upright position with you back and should--CLEAR--nst the seat back, and hold on to the grab bars until the ride comes to a compl--Welcome back riders.

You missed all of this because the auto spiel was almost 2 minutes long and the ride interval is only like 30 seconds if that: --ete stop. Shoulder harnesses and seatbelts must be positioned and fastened properly. Hats, glasses, and all other loose fittting personal items must be secured. Pregnant women should not ride this ride. Please be aware that negative g-forces or weightlessness occurs during the course of the ride. Failure to follow posted safety rules and audio announcements may result in serious accident or injury. If you do not understand these rules or need clarification, please contact a ride host. Thank you for riding Corkscrew, and enjoy your day at Cedar Point, America's Roller Coast.

How about no safety speech? We all get it by now.

^Tell that to the lawyers :)

I don't really like the pre recorded ones. Like other people have said, I love it when workers make it fun and add jokes. The only negative is when you get those few workers who don't care about what they're doing and say it in a boring, mumbled, and monotone voice. But for the most part ride ops make the spiel fun.

The spiels are one of my favorite parts of the ride. I only like pre-recorded spiels on flat rides that only one person is operating. It allowed the ride host to check the restraints while it' playing.

But how many times have you heard it played while waiting in the station for your turn to ride? Unless the ride is a complete walk-on and your timing has you catching the same portion of the spiel repeatedly, you're going to hear it multiple times before you get in the train.

Or foreigners who speak in undecipherable broken English. That's the one that gets me. This is usually on the smaller flats or kids rides, but still... what if there's some important safety item that the riders can't understand? This seems like as big of a liability as not saying it at all.

^ That, and the spiel coming out of what sounds like an old fast food drive thru speaker!

You dont have to suck on the microphone to be heard!

When you visit CP, visit my Mill, est. 1835

The pre-recorded spiels (at least the way CP did them so verbosely and filled with legalese with no variation among rides or attention to intervals, etc) sucked a lot of the life and atmosphere right out the park for the few years that they had them on a bunch of rides. I, for one, am glad they switched back to the manual spiels.

Pre-Recorded spiels can be done right, but CP's were anything but. I honestly wouldn't mind well written and produced pre-recorded spiels. The problem arises when you let lawyers write the damn things.

That is probably true, but the live spiels give the park a much friendlier atmosphere. I would not like to see the recorded spiels come back.

That's true, I guess that's another downfall of not having them be pre-recorded. But I still would rather not have them be pre-recorded, and I don't see the park ever going back to them unless something major happens regarding a safety incident or getting a large amount of complaints. I like how they are now so hopefully they won't get changed.

If you think it is bad listening to a recording while waiting in line imagine the ride hosts.

When done right, not having a pre-recorded spiel can definitely add to the ride experience.

Two of my best memories at parks included listening to the ride op at Gemini, and the ride op on Thunderhead at Dollywood. These are much more superior to a pre-recorded message.

I don't like the idea of pre-recorded spiels. Like some of you have already said, they are not very personable or as enjoyable as a live spiel. I think they come off too serious sometimes whereas the ride host giving spiels are funny and in sink with the ride cycles.

Calypso's ride spiel isn't that bad compared to the Iron Dragon one the park had 7 years ago. It is relatively short and increases efficiency for the ride.
Spiels can be done right. Busch Gardens are relatively short and to the point, and the ride ops are allowed to interact with the guests once the spiel is over.
I believe Flight of Fear a long time ago had a video pre-show with information regarding the lapbar, seatbelt, loose articles, etc. I haven't seen many attractions recently go down that path.
