Power Tower: One of a kind...?

Is Power Tower still the only 4-legged S&S tower?  I think that's kinda neat and impressive that it's the only one in existance(if true) and going into it's 5th season.  Also to add one of the tallest.  Just wondering what everybody thinks.

Prbably because most parks dont need the capacity PT can produce. So why pay for a 4 legger if all you need is a 2 legger. I have an S&S catalog-brochure and it shows blueprints and facts for the ride and I noticed something. On the 4-tower attraction. It lists capacity for 12 and 16 riders per tower. I have never understood since I first read that why CP didnt get 16 riders per tower.  Thats 4 on each side instead of 4 on 2 sides and 2 on 2sides. It could only help capacity.

Also according to the brochure....it says "Our rides include a full one-year warranty"   This brochure does not include the Vertigo type ride. I wonder if CP had the warranty?

All outher CedarFair parks excpt MIA have a three legged tower .

And CP has a four legged tower, kinda like saying CP is the top CedarFair park.

(Above all the rest ;) )

Actally, I'm not sure about the other parks, but Dorney's tower is really only 2 legs.  Physically it has 3 legs,  but only two are used.

More like saying they don't need all that capacity for a Space Shot.

Of course, that would change if they chose to run them they way they do under cold weather conditions (VF, evening of 9/23/01).  The cars never bounce very low and wind up almost halfway up the tower at the end of the ride, but the launch and direction change at the top are fan-freakin'-tastic!  It's the first (and only) time I've seen people prefer the shot to the drop....and I was among that group, too.

Actually, I have ALWAYS preferred the shot to the drop.

Why?  Because it's a more unique experience.  The drop honestly doesn't feel that different than a standard freefall ride, except for the bouncing.  On the Shot side, you get thrown up, airtime at the top, and still get the bouncing, for a much more satisfying (IMHO) ride.

Same with Dorney. Dominator has 3 legs, but only uses 2 towers.

Raven-Phile, I believe thats what he said :)

I should qualify what I said...it was the first time I saw people stumbling from the Shot tower looking glassy-eyed, raving about it and completely ignoring the Turbo Drops.
You would have loved it that night.  Although I've never tried the Shots at WoF, Wisconsin Dells or the Stratosphere, I have sampled CP's, DP's and have had this one 20 minutes from home for two full seasons.  Trust me.  The blasts were freakishly intense with ejector (almost bruising) air at the top.  If there's any good reason to visit CP or VF on a cold day, this would be it.

Doesn't the shots at WoF just have two towers?

Patience is a virtue
Yep...and they're a lot shorter than VF's or CP's (only 160' instead of 240' or 250').  But I've been told the earlier shot models--like the ones I mentioned above--were incredibly intense.  I just don't know from experience.

I'll attest to that.  The shot on the top of Stratosphere seems a lot more intense than Power Tower's shot tower.   It literally ejects you out of your seat, instead of floating you out.  Although i have received some PT rides that ejected a little.  Also the Stratosphere has that added fear of height.  It seems like you're on the ground before the launch, but when you take off all of a sudden you're over 1000 feet above the strip.

I believe that Knott's has a 325 ft. structure. PT is 300ft. and the cars go up 240 ft.

The Tower of Teror in Europe has a 400ft free fall ride on the side of it call the giant drop, but it's not S&S.

The Dropzone tower is 315 feet high but the riders only go up 264 feet... PKI makes it pretty confusing on their website though... they have the following 2 statements right next to each other on their dropzone page:

"Feel your heart drop when you plunge 26 stories from a height of 315 feet straight down at speeds of over 61 mph. on the tallest Gyro Drop in the World!"

and

Height of Tower

315 feet

Height from which riders drop

264 feet
