Poll: New wood at CP?

Do you think Cedar Point will ever get a new wooden coaster?
As in, 100 years from now?

Or soon?

Eventually the will, unless Wood dies out 100%.

Soon? I doubt it.

Well about 6 years ago I thought we would have a new one by now. All of these parks got great CCIs, so I was hoping that we would get one soon. Then we got Ghost Rider at Knott's and I figured if Knott's has one, then we are going to get one. Then we got Shivering Timbers (when I mean we I mean Cedar Fair) and I was thinking for sure some year soon we would get one. Then CCI goes out of business, and with the way the park is very budget oriented (for obvious reasons I am sure someone will pick up on what I mean) as of the last two years there is no way they are going to build a woodie. With BS, MS, Gemini, and CCMR to worry about, from a maitenance standpoint I don't think they want to have to worry about reinvestment in maintaing another wood coaster.

Are Gemini and Mine ride really that much more costly to maintain becuase of their wood structure then a normal steel coaster?

Doesn't seem like it too me.

BS is an excellent woodie and running better then ever this year. Well better then it has since it's castration.

MS on the other hand needs a match. I got a nearly trimless ride saturday. GIVE ME MORE TRIMS! It's so sad to see such a great coaster become so awful. S and D had serious problems. Their smaller coasters run fine though, rides like Thunder Run and Wolverine Wildcat run fine.

Welcome back Magnum riders how was your ride?

CCMR's and Gemini's wood have to be replaced over time. Gemini's old wood will be gradually replaced in a couple years. That's a heckovalota wood.
I guess that does make sense.

I don't see CP getting another wood coaster in the conventional sense. They are just not marketable enough compared to gigantic steel coasters. If CP gets anything wood, I bet it would use the Intamin milled track technology that is supposed to drastically reduce maintenance.

Florida may have Disneyworld and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

Exactly Pete, I remember Monty Jasper mentioning it briefly at the Coastermania Q&A.

"Wheres the Callahan factory?!?!?"
Yeah, I suppose as long as Mean Streak is a maintenance nightmare, CP won't be receiving new wood.

Solution: a match and a gas tank.

I would like to see a new wooden coaster at CP! I think the best spot would have been in the "L" shaped area including taking out Peanuts Playground. However that would look nice with the boardwalk, theres rumor that Chaos and Troikia x3 is going in the playground area. I can always dream!

I have always been a bigger fan of steel than wood, but it would be nice to see CP get an amazing woodie. Although it's been a few years, Beast was amazing the last time I rode it. I also enjoyed Lightning Racer and Wildcat at Hershey this summer, and I will finally experiance Shivering Timbers on Sunday!

Who finally met the infamous Magnum Dan!

The big problem with a wood coaster *gasp* is where are you going to put it? ;) Also, marketing a 400ft coaster is much easier than a woodie.
So what did you think of ST, Ralph Wiggum? :)

I loved ST! It is without a doubt the 2nd best woodie I've been on, with the Beast being the best. IMO, ST had everything a great woodie should have, speed, lots of air, and some very nice lateral g's. I would love to see a ride like this at CP, it sure beats MS.

Proud to be on the train when ST Kara took her 1,000 lap on Shivering Timbers.

The ride sells itself, doesn't it? What a great coaster! :):)

Why do people say this? Coasters neither need to be steel nor gigantic to be marketable. SFStL was able to market the hell out of BOSS. Hershey was able to to the same with Lightning Racer. CP has sort of "painted themselves in a corner" with all the latest coaster being "record breakers". But they could drop that at any point. With now what, 16 coasters, I dont think there would be many people who would complain that the new one was "little".

If they did, they should be subjected to "Soup-Nazi"-like treatment "No Coasters for YOU! Ban ONE YEAR!" :)

You've been around here long enough to know better than that. We've already had people complain about a ride that hasn't even been announced yet!

I gotta better idea: Mean Streak marathon.

Except for you, of course....Hurt-me-please-fan. You'd have to be hog-tied in a Raptor seat.

The CPlaya 100--6 days, 9 parks, 47 coasters, 2037 miles and a winner.....LoCoSuMo.

Just get on the phone with gravity group to see if there is any hope with MS. But they are not going to do that because a renovation of MS would cost too much for that ride. So then you use the gas line that travels under MS and light a match on it....BOOM. But that won't happen. (If for some unknown reason MS was torn down I would have a Gravity Group dueling coaster there). So in the end we still have MS and nothing happens for many years to come.
