Police work for 2013 season

I am looking to apply to become a police officer for CP when they open up again next season. Im OPOTA certified and very eager to start my career. I read a few things about the department and what the jobs about. Basically just looking for some inside information on everything about from when and where i should apply and just overall any info on the job would be appreciated!!!!! Thanks guys/gals

Well, you wont be able to apply till the 2013 season application comes out on the website. (Usually comes out middle of December, I think)

I knew a guy that went into security for the summer season. I cant tell you much if you wanted to do Full Time now since the park is closed, but if you look into the full year job section on the job site, there's nothin open. But usually after the season, if they have extra room they ask you if you want to work during the off season.

I know you could get a job when the park is open because they have a lot of security jobs in the park night/day, the resorts and hotels, parking lots/roads, and even the employee dorms. And their usually short of people every year.

Here are some sites:
Year-Round(Like I said, very hard to work year round): http://www.cedarpoint.com/jobs/year-round-jobs

Summer employment: https://jobs.cedarfair.com/cedarpoint/

Good Luck! Its awesome working with this company!

Thanks Sgarver, just one more question. When you say security are you referring to police? I need to be commissioned so I could only do police. Do you know how hard it is to get on their police force

Well, I wish I can tell you 100% but I know they hire people from the Sandusky Police Department also. I wish I had more information, if I hear anything else I'll let you know!

My buddy was a cop there a few years ago. He hated it. You cannot apply to be a police officer, you become an unarmed security guard wearing the police uniform for a month or so until they do some kind of oral board with the chief, captain and lieutenant. You cannot carry your firearm until you pass this scenario based evaluation. And even when you pass it, that's all you are allowed to carry. No secondary weapons!

If you're looking for real police experience you should go to put-in-bay. Cedar point police are a joke. Only officers allowed to do anything are the full time members. And you'd have to work there for 20 years until one of them retires to get in full time. So unless you want to be a glorified security guard for cedar point, go be a real cop somewhere else!

If you are brand new, its a good place to get some basic experience. Safety & Security are considered the better seasonal jobs. Many of the sergeants work for other departments and have connections to other chiefs which is great for networking in other police positions. They also offer an internship opportunity.
They have both bonded and non-bonded officers (bonds are actually an extension of Sandusky PD) They do carry firearms as well as respond to calls in the dorms and on occasion to the bars along the coast when sandusky calls for assistance. I would consider it to be a fairly good opportunity to get your feet wet, as they do respond to alot of emergencies, fights, calls, etc. The application for the department fills up quickly, so be sure to get your app in right in january. It also helps to call or email one of the sergeants expressing your interest.
Good Luck!

If you're looking for BASIC experience like learning to talk on a radio and honing interpersonal communication skills its a good start.

My buddy said flat out here's the pros and cons.

Pros:
*GIRLS
*HAVE YOUR COMMISSION HELD.

Cons:
*CANNOT MAKE AN ARREST WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM A SUPERVISOR. *EJECT RATHER THAN ARREST FOR BLATANTLY ARRESTABLE OFFENSES. *SECURITY WHITE SHIRT LOOKING UNIFORM.
*BE REFERRED TO AS '' SECURITY '' BY THE PARK AND GUESTS.
*ONLY LAW ENFORCEMENT ACTION PERMITTED IS ONE THAT BENEFITS THE PARK (Theft, Employee theft, Counterfeit tickets etc.)
*MANAGEMENT AND SEASONAL SUPERVISORS FROM OTHER DEPARTMENTS CAN TELL YOU WHAT TO DO AND TYPICALLY HATE THE POLICE.
*BEING CAUGHT TEXTING OR TALKING ON THE PHONE WILL GET YOU IN TROUBLE IF SEEN BY ANY PARK MANAGEMENT.
*NO SECONDARY WEAPONS. NO FORCE OF CONTINUUM.

Just to name a few.

As mentioned previously, CPPD is a good way to get started and hold your commission. If you apply, I would suggest requesting to work 3rd shift. Working nights is going to be the experience most similar to traditional police work. You would spend pretty much zero time dealing with issues in the park, as 2nd shift does not go home until the park is closed no matter what time it is. 3rd shift handles calls at the employee housing, hotel properties, and patrols all other Cedar Point property.

Job Description:
-Stand in one spot all day with your arms folded and aviators on
-Flirt with the Sweeps
-Act tough
-Wait for a call
-Once called, remain standing where you are for at least 15 minutes to ensure that by the time you get to the scene, the situation will have already been resolved and you won't have to do any work
-Ruin kids lives by arresting them for underage drinking. (Nobody should be allowed to have fun after a 12 hour shift!)
-Remain completely ignorant of all the jokes that you will be the target of
-Remind yourself approximately every 10 minutes that nobody likes you

And most importantly,
-Find a new career.

Hope that helps!
