PointBuzz Background

The background of Pointbuzz is a picture of Maverick. Do you think that maybe it will (or should) change to GateKeeper next year? Discuss.

Or maybe a pink elephant?

No way, the pink elephant-giga coaster doesn't come out until 2015.

Not sure if changing the website background has been an ongoing trend, but I'm sure none of us would mind a GK one when the time comes.

I love the background of this site. It looks awesome.

Let's Get Weird.

First and foremost the forum system needs to be changed. POP Forums? LOL.

vBulletin and IPB and phpBB laugh at such nonsense.

I wrote that forum, jackass. How much software have you written from scratch?

Listen, it's nice for what we have here, but if you ever want to put those expansion plans into place, you're going to have to pony up and join the big boys.

I'll make the first donation. Hell, I'll even pay for the entire thing.

I've seen your expansion plans. They are fantastic. They will fail without real message board software.

Really? After 12 years, I'd say we've done just fine. You don't know what you're talking about.

So you deny you have expansion plans?

Hmm. Wonder what site that was then. Apologies.

Jeff's avatar

Expansion of what? Web sites are never "done." Furthermore, vBulletin is the Microsoft Word of forums, bloated and slow with features people don't need. phpBB is a joke. I'll take the Pepsi Challenge any day for performance, especially with the new version with mobile views.

Get off my lawn, sonny. I've been doing this a long time.

IMO. Game, set, and match. +10.

I needed a good laugh this morning. This site has been great and has had more up-time then down-time. Set up is great message boards are easy and I have never had any trouble over it.

Back in a previous post here is a few of his best statements about SS being brought down for a laugh.

That's what I thought too. They'll cut it up and lift the pieces off one by one until it's all gone. You don't knock a tower down like a tree.

PyroKinesis said:

No it's not, they are clearly liars. You can't "control fall" a gigantic tower. You take it down the same way it went up. Piece by piece.

Into what safe area? There will be at least 1, maybe 2 deaths if they continue with this foolishness.

So when he speaks we laugh.

Thanks again Jeff and Walt for this site. Keep up the awesome work.

I don't get how you could dislike this software or have complaints? It's some of the better and faster forum software I've ever used and rarely has problems.

As someone who's been writing software for a whole long time (probably longer than Jeff) I do have an appreciation for the effort required to build something like this from scratch.

The only glaring weakness I see is the search function. It returns matches by thread but will not jump to the page where the match occurs. Now sometimes that's not a big deal, but for threads like the Gatekeeper monstrosity it is entirely useless.

Recreating the wheel is not my idea of fun, but I do take my hat off to someone who has the time and energy to try.

What you describe isn't a software problem, it's a user problem. There isn't any reason for any thread to go on that long. It's about a hundred different topics.

PB is great...keep up the fantastic work. How much better can it get? Its all I could ever ask for and more. And very much appreciated. Thank you for giving me a place to enjoy something I'm ridiculously nerdy about. Pyro has been rambling on senselessly for some time now. I just ignore it. And will continue to do so.

PointBuzz is great. My only request is a "like" button that is used on CoasterBuzz.

Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!

Back to the original topic, do you think GateKeeper will be a good background. Also,

I don't disagree with part of what you're saying. That thread is ridiculous. But long, multi-page threads are very common here and most forum software search functions DO take you to highlighted instances of search criteria.

Some commonly used forum software packages do have search features that leave me wanting, however, so you're not alone in this regard. It's just that most threads are longer than one page (if they're worth reading anyway) and a richer search function would be welcomed by many, I'm guessing.

Closed topic.
