Yeah, that helps out a lot of people. I know a few friends that due that on a lot of the rides. As for myself I'd rather see what's coming.

Smoking Marijuana isn't a bad thing or even a good one, like everything else, its what you make of it.
Back in 2000, I had to close my eyes the first time I rode Millennium Force, up that huge hill. But the next 24 times they were wide open!:) Great view from the top.

Before I went on the bigger ride I always got a sick feeling on the first drop of Mine Ride and Iron Dragon. The feeling went away after a few rides though. But I was so nervous about getting that feeling I stayed away from every big ride at the park. I finally learned that screaming really loud helps. Instead of being scared think about enjoying yourself or riding something that many people wouldn't dare to ride. Screaming keeps your mind off of what you are going through. The first time I went on MF I think I screamed up the lift hill down the lift hill and every other part of the ride.

I actually wish I had more of that feeling when riding coasters...maybe not the pain, but the intensity that you can feel in your gut from riding Magnum for the first time when you're a little kid. First drops are still fun, but after riding a bunch of coasters a bunch of times its hard to get that feeling, except for a long (i.e. several months) break in riding maybe, but you still only get it on your first ride and then it wears off. *** Edited 8/5/2004 2:19:48 AM UTC by mantis_man***
I'm not a doctor but one thing that might help you would be to take antacids. A possibility, although it's something your doctor would have to diagnose, is that your stomach acid is hitting a sensitive spot in your stomach or your esophagus. Because the first drop is usually the most intense, the stomach acid will rise and hit this spot. To counter act that, I'd say take an antacid pill or something to neutralize the acidity in your stomach. It could also be jitters and anxiety that is causing the acid in your stomach to churn. Again, I'd suggest antacids.
I used to hold my breath going down huge drops on coasters. This does not help, but quite the reverse. At least, this was the case with me. If you scream, this might help a little.
I just started breathing normal truthfully. lol.
I found a trick is to talk to the person next to you the whole way up the hill. I swear, you forget what's going on and it's over before you know it. The more I rode the easier it got, and my friends kept dragging me onto the bigger and bigger ones.
I've ridden everything except Dragster now which I am doing tommorrow! You totally just have to face your fears though, and you will be so excited when you do.

Magnum still rocks.
What would be some ways to calm myself while going up the hill? maybe beatboxing? ;)

Just ride the coasters and forget about it.
MrScott
You obviously don't understand.

I don't believe there are any tricks to help curve your fear. Distraction may work for some, but for most it is hard to forget they are ascending a loud, tall, and steep hill. The only way I feel to get yourself on a ride is with strong peer pressure or by your own motivation. As for enjoying the ride, that may or may not come with time.
Strong peer pressure works like a charm.

YOur saved Brennan.. This feelng in the stomach and thighs is VERY common on people who havent ridden Alot of coasters.. After you ride ALOT of coasters it will eventually go away i had the same thing... But now i find myself seriously missing that feeling its not really painfull its more of an extreme weird tingle in your stomach and thighs I only get it when its my first coaster of the day on a drop after that it goes away unless i ride something with a bigger drop then i only get it twords the bottom of the hill.. this feeling i used to hate but now i love it and i try to get it as many times as i can now.
When I first told someone about it they just said it was a "stomach float". Keep Riding coasters Breelan and it will eventually go away.. Then you will want it back lol
What do you mean by ALOT of roller coasters? Could i do that by going once a year (like i do)? Or would I have to go all the time? Another question: To get over it, did you like ride say Iron Dragon over and over again untill it didn't hurt, then ride Blue Streak over and over again untill it didn't hurt, then go to the next step etc.?

brennan, the "feeling" you having going down the first hill, alot of people get that same feeling. Some people describe it as "Butterflies" in their stomach. I used to get it myself, but I just sucked up all the courage I had left and got on Millenium Force with my parents back in 2000. You need to tackle something big at Cedar Point. Or as the others said, ride something you've rode before, over, and over again until you don't get that "feeling". You'll soon get over it, I know I did.
Try screaming. I heard that gets rid of oxygen in your body or something and sometimes helps being scared and things like that.
Brennan,
I've had the same problem since I was very small. I was told by my doctor that it could be related to major stomach surgery I had when I was little. I couldn't ride even flat rides without having that feeling! While working there, I found the courage to ride everything (alot of peer pressure helped too!). What works for me is screaming as hard as possible on the way down the hill or breathing in deeply then breathing out a long, hard breath on the way down. I always "worked my way up" on coasters. Starting with things like Iron Dragon, Mine Ride, and Disaster Transport and ending with the "big ones." I found that I adjusted to the coasters and didn't hurt as much. I know how you feel - everyone used to call me a "big baby" and a "chicken." They never understood that it actually HURT!
So...when you scream or exhale, is the pain totally gone? Or just a little, or halfway, etc. That's just how I am, when I was alot younger, I couldn't even ride Swabinchen or Himalaya or even the Scrambler! Except i've never had any kind of work done on my stomach. I know! Nobody understands...they think i'm a wuss!

I rode the Millenium for the first time this year, and I cried all the way through the line. I was afraid I would not be able to take it and die.
But seriously like... I don't know, once you conquer something big, I swear to you, you can do everything.
