Are you sure it had fully released and hadn't just slipped out a notch? I know this has happened before where a restraint isn't fully engaged to a notch and then "jumps" out to the next notch which can make it feel like it released.
Goodbye MrScott

I'm sure. The only thing that kept the OTSR down at all was the crotch belt* and my shaking, white-knuckled hands. I know what you're talking about. This wasn't that.
*Now that I think about it, I can't remember if there was even a crotch belt. I've ridden so many coasters I'm not even certain any more. What I do remember clearly was going up that lift and discovering I could extend the OTSR as far as I wished.

Then I guess it doesn't. Memory is a funny thing, even for something as scary as my experience.
Anyway, I'm not posting this to make a big stink. What happened, happened. I still love KI, and I'm sure I'll love it even more in CF hands.

For those of you who ride Vortex and get a sore or pulled neck felling. The front seat isn't the best for comfort, back of the train and back seat to me feels better. And Ensign Smith, I've heard from a buddy who said he had that happen to him on Vortex. The only reason why Vortex should get seat belts is, going throw the double corkscrews you whole body is relying on the OSHR.
Quote from a Corkscrew ride op, "And Dragster is down again"
Well, thank you for that! I feel vindicated. I was starting to wonder if I was crazy or if I had hallucinated the whole experience.
Yeah, the corkscrews are the worst. With the trims on there's hardly enough negative gees to keep you in your seat. That's one ride I wouldn't argue if CF puts belts on it. And it's definitely on the rough side for a steelie...but I still like it.

Just be careful not to fall in. That'd be a real shocker.Oh yes, I went there.
So somebody else remembers that shocking incident from the 90's as well. Isn't that the same time or around the same time when someone fell out of a ride that no longer exists at KI? I was was only about 10 or 11 mabe 12 at the time, I don't remember too much of the details. I just remember KI got hit with a double wammy of incidents in the early 90's, including a lady who was electricuted in one of the ponds. I think this was just before the Paramount buyout, or shortly thereafter.
Ahhh...Black Sunday
June 9, 1991
"Two men were killed after having been electrocuted in a pond at Kings Island amusement park in Kings Island, Ohio. They were trying to rescue another man who was in the pond. He also suffered electrical shock. Also a very drunk woman fell out of Flight Commander. This day isknown as Black Sunday."

Didn't some kid fall off Drop Zone at KI a while ago? I could have sworn I saw something about that years back.
"Water will be involved." MrScott 2006
Someone told me that some girl got her hair stuck in the inner workings of drop zone while it was dropping and got scalped and died. I don't know if its true, but its distrubing just to think about.
Four discount funday tickets to Cedar Point: $130.96
Overnight stay at Breakers Express: $70
Riding rides the size of skyscrapers while "legally" breaking the local speed limit: Priceless
I can tell you right now that is not true. Where do people come up with these things?

It's the same fake story for Power Tower and Demon Drop.

The origins of the "girl X got scalped on ride Y" may have its roots to an unfortunate incident on a ride similar to CP's Matterhorn where a girl's long hair got entangled in the hinges of the car and ripped out some chunks. I wish I could find my references on that, though...
That had to hurt, my head hurts just thinking about it.
