I think CP should put an on-ride photo spot right at the the end of the launch run near the forward spike. It's just my opinion, what do you think?
I think that would be a great idea I thought they should of last year. They would really profit off of it.

I hate to say it, but Wicked Twister is not looked at as a major ride by the GP. Don't believe me? Go over to that midway about a half hour before close. Puting a camera there will lose money if anything.

While I agree with Drew that a on ride photo wouldn't produce much profit, I think it'd be awesome to have one while the train is on the vertical track and experiencing weightlessness. It'd be a tricky set up as you'd have to use both spikes to capture both the front and back of the train, and you'd also have to make some big adjustments due to the varying speeds that the train would be moving past the camera(s). I know it won't happen, but it's interesting to think about nonetheless.

You guys ever watch TTD rollback? The Camera goes off as the train is coming back in reverse... I'm sure there is a specific type of camera (or atleast they can make one) Where it only takes the picture once... (special cameras cost extra $)

but ya know, Drew is right, WT Camera = no profit

Good to see everyone here is familiar with the turnstyle numbers, equipment costs and profit margins of onride photos. [/sarcasm]

What time does the water show start?

WT's numbers at the end of the day are higher than all but a few coasters. How would putting a camera there lose money? All you're talking about a 1/2 hour out of a whole day... so 5% of not loading every train means you lose money?

Neither Drew nor Jeff have any idea what they're talking about here. Capacity drives profits on photos? Gimme a break. This year VF built an on-ride photo booth for the Flume...the FLUME! Not a wheeled unit on a cart, mind you--a whole flamin' concession stand. Not exactly a 'major coaster' for the GP, is it?

Still don't believe me? Not enough for ya? Okay, I didn't wanna have to do this, but you leave me no choce. There's yet another major, high-capacity coaster at the park with on-ride photos--and here it is. Click for yourself...case closed.

The reason there aren't on-ride pics is a technical one. Trust me. If there was a way to do it, you'd better believe they'd have it up at the 'Attraction' Capital of the World...

Who pissed in your CherriosĀ®? I made no case for it either way, only that the above opinions on ridership, equipment costs and profit margins were based on zero understanding of the subjects.

But since you asked, there is no technical reason to not have the onride pics. I've seen plenty of shuttles with onride photos, and another ride at the park that takes your picture somewhere around 70 mph mid-launch.

I think if they can fire electromagnets in sequence to propel many tons of steel to 70+ mph in a few seconds, taking that steel's picture is far from difficult. The only limitation is that no vendor has bothered to do it yet.

I know for a fact that Wicked Twister does not put more riders through a day than most coasters at Cedar Point. In fact, it's not even on the top 10 of rides given. I was merely stating that while an on-ride photo would be an interesting way to raise profit, its ridership doesn't warrant the need for one to give an extreme increase in profit.

I like how Drew, who works on Corkscrew, knows all about Wicked Twister's numbers......

I can hear Michael Buffer now, "Let's get ready to rumble...".

I'm not sure that it would lose money, but the only place to put the camera is on the launch and I think that you would not get a good enough pic of both people because of the way that the trains hang from the track. One of the reasons that I have bought pics in the past is to see my reaction with the person that is with me.

On Raptor the cameras are positioned where the train is going around a curve and you can get a decent shot of two people from each side which drives up the sales of a double pic vs. only one person buying a individual pic.

The funny thing is that WT and certain other rides, people assume that because there are shorter lines that the ride actually has lower ridership, which is never the case. They're not sending empty seats out. If you judge how popular a ride is by the length of the queue, you'd think Magnum ridership was 1/10th of what it was ten years ago, and that's obviously not the case.

This makes a better case than ever that in most cases it doesn't make sense to get into a long line when it might be shorter later.

One Impulse train = two traditional Arrow trains...in that ethereal world called 'ride capacity'. Your mileage may vary. At least they still quote 1200 pph...

But seriously, there's gotta be some difficulty involved with getting an on-ride photo system working on an Impulse. I have no idea what it would be, but it must exist. If I didn't know any better (and I don't), I'd guess the new VF flume cam was supposed to have been the SV cam. In a park that lays out concession stands like most CF parks do trash cans, there's no other explanation.

I don't see any technical problems with a camera on Impulse rides. Seems to me that it would be fairly simple to set it up to fire once per ride cycle, not every time the train goes by. That is the only thing that would make it different from other rides.

than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Ok, I'm not going to get in a shouting match about who has more riders. Look at the numbers sheet next time your TL gets their packet. If you don't believe me there look on Cedar Point's "official" rides count from last year.

Honestly people, it's just a roller coaster. I have levels of dignity in my life, and getting in to a fight over something this trivial definitely hits an all time low. If you want to fight this so hard and try to make something out of nothing, put a camera in.

When did the world start taking things so seriously?

Hey Drew, I think WT had just a little tiny bit of downtime last year... just a smidge. The number this year will kill last year's.. just like Dragster.. it's numbers this year do not reflect it's capacity, not by a long shot. WT can easily get 10k+ people a day, which is not bad at all, especially for one train with a 2+ minute interval per train.

Drew: It's kind of lame to shout fire in a theater then come back and claim to take the moral high ground of getting a life.

So I forget... does PKI's Face/Off take one set of pictures in one direction, then the facing riders in the other direction?

Yes Jeff, Face/Off does exactly that. And speaking of PKI, Flight of Fear has pics taken during the launch.
