Petting Farm

Ok here is my dilema I want to work for cp this summer but my mother says i have to work with something in my field. I am a zoology major and going to get my vet tech license later. I wa wondering how hard it would be to be able to work in the petting farm?

You're in luck, last year's ATL of the petting farm frequents these boards...

You must be 18 years old (or 17 years old and graduated from high school) Although there was a 17 year old who was hired last year that hadn't graduated from high school yet (not sure exactly why the exception was really made, but she only lasted a day anyway)

You must also not be afraid of heights (because you must climb into lofts to get supplies) and also be able to lift 50-60 lbs (hay bales, bags of feed, goats and lambs)

Studying an animal related area is a great qualification of getting hired, but even not necessary. Be sure to stress any animal contact you have had. Contract dates may determine some candidates. (Animals arrive about a week before the park opens, and last year they stayed through Halloweekends) The crew is about 8-9 people when fully staffed. You also work a few times a week at Pet Check.

With your major, and if you have some animal experience makes you a good candidate. John Wolshuck handles the hiring for the farm.

If you have any other questions about the pet farm or pet check, let me know.

ok well i have worked as a vet tech for the past 6 year at a emergency vet clinic. I am also currently working with reseach animals here at msu. That means cows and horses and dogs and cats and rabbits and mice and the such. I am very strong hey i wrestle with steers everyday. And I am studying zoology (zoo and aquarium) here at MSU. Does that qualify me? I am also 20 I will be 21 in september.
Please e-mail me with some contacts. Also I would have to leave a bit earlier than hallow weekends for I am in the spartan marching band and band camp starts sometime in august but I can stay until about a week before or even 4-5 days before, but since i'm in college i could come down there sooner

Yes of course you qualify, you don't even need half that to qualify. But I just wanted to mention that applying for the pet farm isn't a sure hire because of the limited crew, unlike some areas of the park where just a pulse is needed to get hired. (I know I'm exagerrating!!)

Though with your experience, I would be surprised if they didn't hire you. I sent you an email with more information.
