Patron Entrance Time Change?

The person I talked to on the info line said it would open at 9am this year.Anyways everyone will still probably be there at nine because how will this new time get out.Unless they clearly state that on the brochure expect it to be open at 9.
Greg
Good news- I called up the info line and got my brocure at a rest stop in ohio, the info ladies said DEFIANTLY 9:00 opening, and the brocure said nothing about a later opening time. Kinda wish CP would have said something about it more publicly on commercials and stuff, and then changed it back to maybe delay some of the GP. Oh well.

BTW, how many of ya'll are still going to get at the park around 8 something and wait at the Marina gate for MF? I know I am!!
The thing that makes me wonder is on the Joe Cool Club page, it says that members of the club will be admitted to the park early (9-10AM) on May 19, 31, June 14, 28, July 12, 26 and August 9, 2001. This page is located at:

http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/trips/main/tickets/season_pass_central/articles.cfm?page=Joe%20Cool%20Club

I also checked the schedule page and it states the park opens at 10. Perhaps these will be the only days that they will not let the GP in at 9, but it seems like it might be a conflict of some type.

That could be referring to more of an ERT, who knows. My 2 cents: wait until opening day and find out! :)

Hi, I'm not sure how relevant this is, but I'm from Kansas City and I was just at World's of Fun's opening day last saturday. Their gates used to also open an hour early (9 am), but they did not open until 10 sharp on saturday. Maybe this new rule is going to be for all CF parks....?
I'm telling you, I've already went for training and my supervisor Tony Aaron has informed me that the gates will open at 10am. If I am wrong I can blame Tony...hehe!

Too much to count!
If CP monitors these discussion groups, I'd just like to make sure that my vote gets counted AGAINST this change. Opening the gates early is one of a bunch of little things that set CP apart from other parks and I don't really see the reason for the change (along with other things like free water and keeping lines open until closing time). They are going to create a mob scene of people at 10 AM running through the gates and running like hell, perhaps trampling people along the way, in order to get to their ride of choice. It was also nice when some of the bigger rides started running a little earlier than others in anticipation of a busy day. I'm working Magnum this summer and even if it means me coming to work a bit earlier, I'd rather see this change not take place. I'd suggest that everyone write CP and (using correct spelling and grammer) tell them what you think of this change.

Opening the gates at 10 would be one of the stupidest ideas in the history of stupid ideas. Sure, I think it's stupid that people get there at 9 so they can stand in line for Raptor or Magnum for an hour, but whatever. The big rides generally opened early, and if it wasn't for that, less people would have been able to ride Millennium Force. Hey, if they want to reduce that ride's capacity by a thousand people per hour, that's their business, but it's a dumb move.

The official word that I got was that early gates would be used "as necessary."

Well, the absolute stupidest stupid idea is the Six Flags/Busch Gardens rope drop trick, where the park is opened for an hour in a very small area, then on cue a rope is dropped and a mob goes racing for the big new ride. Stacking lots of people outside the main entrance gate isn't quite as bad, as the gate itself will tend to moderate the people-flow, but it creates a similar problem. I've always liked Cedar Point's early opening program simply because it gets the early crowd scattered all over the park, which should take some of the load off of Raptor at 10:00 in the morning. I'm not sure that it does, but it should.

And it's just nice in the morning to walk around and scope out the Point before it gets too full. I just enjoy walking a bit and then getting in line maybe a half hour before opening. (It's also a blessing when MF and maybe other major rides operate before the park actually opens.) I've just gotten used to these nice things CP does for us and it would be a big shame to see them go.

I hit the Point about three times a year, and try to arrive around 9:30. That, to me, is the best part of the day. You are finally there, but you haven't done anything yet, and the anticipation is unbelievable as you watch the rides start to test. KEEP EARLY OPENING.
A topic came and went about the JCC giving different ERT's for members between 9am and 10am on 7 different occasions. I figured that on these 7 occasions, the public would be let in at 10, but maybe all other times it would still be 9. At least I hope this is what they're going to do...

Trim brakes-a necessity???
I believe that this is not going to effect that many people.... sure some coasters would open before the official opening time....there are a few food places open but not everything is not open I think over the long run this will save CP some money! (Maybe not millions but a descent amount!)

Don't hate me because of my comments!

It will also hurt word of mouth, and frankly, will create the ride rushes that no security guard whistle will be stopping.

Heck, on the other hand, now Mean Streak won't have to open until 11. No one will get back there in the first hour.

With opinions like your in HR, no wonder dumb ideas like TTR get instituted *and kept* in the face of common sense.
I like getting to the park early. It is fun to just walk around for an hour or get something to eat (like i uusualy do) before everything starts running at 10. I hope the CP peeps are reading this.

Open the gates at 9! Please! :)
I agree that it will hurt word of mouth and that it will create rushes that no guard will be able to stop. Hopefully no one will get hurt or run over as they run to their favorite ride, but that's what I fear happening. Like I said up above - I suggest that everyone use the feedback feature on CP's website and tell them what you think of this issue. I'm sure my opinion alone isn't going to change their minds. :(

P.S. To defend Marcus a bit, I'm not really sure where this decision is made, but it might not be Human Resources. Although it might not affect many guests negatively, it is certainly going to bother some and I really don't see how this move helps CP at all either.
Last year, especially Opening Day, I ran to MF at 9, and many others did as well. I don't see a late gate opening affecting the "mob" too much.

I am still very mad that they would open the gates at 10. That early opening really is convenient. Plus I blame CP for not getting the truth out to guests, if this change happens. Especially if their own phone operators told callers that it would be 9. I am getting there at 9 anyways on May 6, and if they tell us to wait an hour to get in, I will NOT be happy.

alright so is this definate..
if my dad and i go to cedar point marina gate at 900 they wont let us in, having us lose possibly another chunk of our precious coasting time? will they open the ticket booths and parking lot before then, and then just have a mass of people standing at all enterance? this will make morning crowds horrid, based off the fact that most people (it seems) will tend to arrive a little before 9.
I'm seeing ticket and park enterance lines like ride lines, i sure hope this isnt the case.

(NO TIME TO SPELLCHECK SORRY)

Of all the things I will miss about not letting guests in early, the thing that I will miss the most, especially on Saturdays, is what we on the Raptor Crew called the Millennium Marathon(stampede). All of the guests would be let in and allowed to go as far as the Sky Ride. They would be stopped their by a yellow rope. Right after the national anthem, the rope would drop, and guests would run like their lives depended on it. Watching ladies run with strollers was the best!
