Patron Entrance Time Change?

OK, I'll try this again, since it apparently didn't work last night.

A teacher colleague of mine has been arranging the two-day CP trip for 8th graders for years. This year, in making arrangements for ticket procurement through CP, she was informed that CP would no longer be admitting guests an hour prior to the official opening time. Therefore, on Sunday, June 3, for example, when the park is scheduled to open at 10am, the gates would not open until 10am.

In years past, of course, the gate would open at 9, allowing early arriving patrons to enter the park and begin getting in line for when the coasters open after their morning checks.

The employee said that she, among many others, felt this was a mistake, but she of course had not say in the matter.

Can anyone substantiate this claim? If it is indeed true, it is certainly quite a bummer.

Okay, cross my fingers and hope this goes through to GTTP CP Place this time X

I have also heard this but can't confirm. Jeff?
if so, i smell joe cool club possibily
If this is indeed the case this year, I wonder what prompted this sort of a change. The system never seemed to cause problems before.

It's my understanding that the gates will still open at nine but this will not be advertised as doing so. Part of the reason this may happen is people would tend to complain that the rides and stands were not running when the gates opened.

Cedar Point May 5-6, 16
(other parks N/A as of March 1)
I generally have a tough time getting up there before 9:30 or 10:00 anyway, so this change, assuming it happens, won't make a whole lot of difference to me...provided that they still manage to get the whole park up and running at 10:00am. I would be a little peeved to get up there at 10:00 and find out that Magnum and Gemini don't get started until 11:00!

Well, the "official word" I recieved was the gates will open at 10a.m. I was given this information when planning the company event for this summer. We pass the tickets out at the gate and were told not to bother starting to pass out tickets until 9:30 a.m. or so.
I will miss the early hour...hopefully by July 22, when we have our company picnic this will have changed.
I called up the info line they say gates open at 9am no changes. It was thought to be starting at 10 but that is for the attractions.
My guess would be that Cedar Point is still opening the gates at 9:00, but is choosing not to publicly advertise this. Perhaps this is to deter people from arriving as early as some did last year.

It could really help out morning traffic, because those people that do still get there early will already be in the park when others arrive, instead of creating more crowds. Of course, that will only last for about a week, until the word gets around anyway, courtesy of a certain fan-oriented forum website... :)

I doubt that word has gotten out on the change to begin with. Most people will just assume it's that same as any other year.

Well I now know for sure that Cedar Point will open its gates as well as its rides at 10am sharp actually to give the employees a break because now everyone will start at the same time instead of different times!

Too much to count!
Cedar Point is making money when they open the gates an hour early. Most food places are open and its nice to grab something quick to eat or drink before the park "officially" opens. Most souvenier stands are open also. My guess is that they are trying to save money on staffing for that extra hour, think about how many man hours that adds up to all year long. Thats probably more than they are making in that hour. The word I have heard is that the gates will open at 10 along with the rides and i feel i can trust who told me.
Opening the gates at the same times as the rides would do nothing to save employee man-hours. Employees must be at their locations anywhere from 20-30 minutes early (before the ride/store opens) whether the gates are open or not. When the gates were open at 9am, coaster employees still do not report to the ride until 9:25-9:35am, which is exactly when they would have to report for the ride to open at 10am. Gates will not have fewer employees either, since there will have to be people available to supervise the crowds. The only way to save $$$ based on fewer employee hours would be to open the rides/park later (IE 11am), which we know is not happening.

The only employee's that had to get to their coaster early was MF. We had to be there at 8am to be ready because we usually opened around 9am. It was more convenient to open the ride at 9 rather than having a line go to Snake River Falls by 10 am. So with this exception Crystalkat is right about opening later to save money with less employee hours.
lil kim...there were days that Raptor had to be there at 8am. Every Saturday we were also in at 8am, and when ever management felt it was necessary.

Notice that on the 2001 brochure it just list the park times. On the 2000 brochure, I believe they stated below it that the gates open an hour early for each different time.
I'm sorry CPGONEDISNEY, I wasn't too sure if the Raptor crew ever had to be there early. It crossed my mind but I didn't want to write it because I wasn't sure. No hard feelings! :o)
It's alright lil kim :o)No hard feelings!!!
