I have a question, just out of curiosity..what are some of the past ideas, rides, themes, etc. that CP has tried, yet failed miserably at?? I am not trying to put CP down, I was just curious..and if this topic gets deleted, I will at least know one thing not to post...;)
Christmas in the Park comes to mind.
Simple.. the Avalanche Run to Disaster Transport fiasco...

Three words: Ticket to Ride! :) Also, I'm still hoping it's not true, but perhaps we'll soon be able to add the 10AM opening of the gates to this category. CP is good, but they have made some mistakes.

Don't know if I'd say failed miserably. That's a bit harsh.... what about tried but were unable to accomplish to their satisfaction? Didn't they try an Oktoberfest event once? One year they went in for corporate sponsorships in a major way, with Brittanica sponsored info stands, the MIll Race re-named the Nestea Plunge... all of which disappeared the following year, I think. (Though those info stands are still around, if I'm remembering correctly, as gift and food stands.)

Yeah I know a couple people with old Oktoberfest Flags..Oktoberfest was the precursor to Halloweeknds even though there were years in between

*Dude, Where's my car?*
Shows how times change. There was a web site around that had the Oktoberfest info on it. I don't remember the URL. Who knows what will be popular in twenty years. Can you count Bernstein Bears? It was a BIG theme that is no longer around. Didn't CP have some made up character that they tried theme on?
Christmas in the Park really stands out as the best example I can see - they're still trying to offload a lot of the merchandise.

What "exactly" was Christmas in the park? And when was this "interesting" idea....thanks
mikey :)
I think Camp Snoopy was a great investment, really centering on the families which is what CP is about. It just looks so cool over there too.
I am one also for the biggest Disaster of all. "Avalanche Run was great". I remember watching the Olympics and wanting to go Bobsledding and Avalanche Run is the closest I will ever come to it. There was nothing like shooting down a chute with just the blue sky overhead to view (I was little). Now I look up and see a metal roof :(
Yes.. Avalanche Run is an Intamin ride...

AR was done for a reason. Why they didn't keep up the themeing is a totally different story.
CS a mistake. Hardly, the park builds a brand new 10 story hotel. Who is going to fill this new hotel? Families. How do you attract entire families to the park, Camp Snoopy!
Christmas in the Park was thrown together too quickly and it lasted way too long, they could make a killing if they did it the right way, hopefully they still have the idea on the back burner and bring it back soon.
TTR was a good idea, but it needs to be done the right way, the way they do it at the Florida parks. CP is the capacity king, if its not broke, don't try to fix it.

On that Note Dan regarding CP as the Capacity King..I'll recommend everyone making a trip over to CoasterBuzz and checking out Jeff's Coaster Awards 2001. The Multimedia presentation is great!

Camp Snoopy was a GREAT new attraction. I was really impressed. Heck, there are a few rides for adults too.
Biggest disappointment:
1) Converting Avalanche Run to Disaster Transport... a waste of money
2) Removing dark rides like Earthquake, Pirate ride and The Funhouse.
3) Berenstein Bears...anything associated with it.
I'd really like to emphasize Dan's point: Disaster Transport isn't a mistake in itself, the biggest gripe is not keeping up the themeing, which is something else again.
I hadn't thought about the other enclosed/dark rides (Earthquake, Pirate Ride) and I agree some of those would be nice and it may have been a mistake to eliminate all of them. But who knows what will come in next!
