Past Employers

On the job application, if you check yes, do they actually contact an employer you had back in 2008? I don't want them to contact them but I also don't what to check no and make them think that I'm hiding something.

I would just include your employer and let them contact them (if they do). At the time of hire and even before/after my interview, they never called my current two employers or even any of my references after I followed up with them to see if they did & what they asked. Just be honest with it & whatnot...honesty is key in any situation, you're not there to paint a typical picture and sell it. The managers know what to look for, they've been doing this for years, they can see everything

It's always bet to answer all questions truthfully because when they look at your record they will see that you worked before at CP. And if you did get hired and they knew, it wouldn't be a great first step back :)

I'd say check yes. Realistically, IF they called a previous employer, regardless of your standings with them, I think legally the only information they can disclose is

  1. Dateof Hire;
  2. Date of Separation;
  3. Beginning Wage;
  4. Ending Wage;and
  5. Job Title.

I'm not sure it's actually a law what they can and can't disclose, but what you listed is all that most employers will disclose due to fear of lawsuits and such.
