Parking Lot

Supposedly you need your reservations printout or they won't let you through.

Well, that's if you haven't checked in, I would imagine that once you have you can come and go any time (not that I've ever had the energy to go anywhere after a day at the park).

They've never asked for my reservation print-out (not like I would've had it with me anyways) when I drove through the toll booth. They just made me pay my fee and I was on my way.

Yes, you can come and go as you please once you check-in and they give you your parking pass. If you guys want to talk about easy to duplicate - WOW! Cedar Point logo (snag from their website), purple ink and a color printer. One more reason to implement a barcode system with scanners if they REALLY want to curb fraud.

I believe they have someone posted 24 hours.

That is correct. There is someone there 24 hours a day, everyday of the year.

They might well have someone there all the time now but I can assure you 25 years ago that wasn't true. My job at the time frequently had me going home (Huron - 6 miles east of Sandusky) for lunch between 1 and 3 in the morning and a number of times just for the variety I'd drive out the causeway and then back in the chausee. Back then the toll booth was on the mainland and in the dead of winter there was nobody there.

It can't be cost effective to have somebody there outside of the park season so unless it's a security guard, I'm really surprised they'd staff it in the winter. Except for joy-riders like I was, almost nobody going out there then would actually be paying since in winter it's all employees, chausee residents, and Bay Harbor guests (who get a refund of parking/toll).

My recollection is less clear when going out there in the evening for a winter evening dinner at Bay Harbor but I don't think they were collecting at all in winter at any time of day or on any non-operating day. Even the last time I ate at Bay Harbor during that period, a good-bye dinner with friends on the day after Labor Day 1981 (so less than 24 hours after the park closed for the season other than the two (that's all there were then) bonus weekends) I think found an unattended booth.

Well, I don't know about 20-25 years ago, but I can assure you they now have someone there all year round.

In the off-season, it is an officer. Back in the day, I seem to remember a basket to throw a quarter or two in.

In the office season...

Is that a season where you can go ride chairs around the CF offices? If so, can you purchase advance tickets?

Yes, I just noticed it. Fixed it, came back to read the rest of the thread and find that you guys miss nothing. Isn't being perfect 99.9% of the time good enough? :)

Ah i was figuring you were mentioning the parking fee

JuggaLotus's avatar

Take a look at your ticket next time. Its 8.50 for parking, and a .50 toll for use of the causeway/chausee.
