Jeff:
Because we're exceptional in mostly not good ways.
One thing that we are exceptional with is the ability to have 2 separate checks for two people at the table. In the US the restaurants are easily able to do that. But in Birmingham England they did not seem to be able to grasp that concept. The best that they could offer was to let us figure out what each person's amount should be. We just took the lazy route and told them to split the payment 50/50. Not exactly right but good enough.

Though restaurants in Europe I saw weren't really interested in efficiency.
I agree with that. We always seemed to have to ask for the check. The wait person clearly saw that we were done but they just left us alone. Nothing against the restaurant, but once dinner was done it was time to move on to the pubs. I sure miss those.
I've noticed that more and more restaurants here lately bring terminals to your table on checkout. I'd say more often terminals than them taking your card away. We're catching up :) But still not like i've seen in Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Austria. Although many restaurants throughout Bavaria I have been to recently are cash-only, but that is more of a Bavarian thing than Europe in general thing :)
Sit tight fellas ;) Applebee's fills my belly daily.
Plague on Wheels:
cash-only
Only cash only I have run into over here is in Amish country in Ohio. The diner we were in last weekend had really good food but you better have cash in your wallet.
I have never paid to use a toilet in Ohio, unlike Europe! I have to carry around a pocket full of euro coins when out and about in case I need to #2 at the train station. In Germany it’s acceptable to #1 in public parks, for men anyways, not sure I’ve seen a woman do this. It comes handy after several Helles biers!
Im hoping the new toilets around Sirens Curse are free of charge! Some American customs ARE good!

Shades, if you happened to patronize Mary Miller's Bakery in Charm you might have found that they are now accepting card payments after previously being cash-only. It's on the hill above the Swiss Chalet, a little past the Hershberger's complex. I highly recommend the iced molasses cookies, my son prefers the apple fritters. POW, happy to report the restroom, errrrrrrr outhouse is free of charge.
It was the Boyd & Wurthmann restaurant in Berlin.
Sadly I cannot report on the pay status of their restrooms.
@Jimmy, glad to hear that the outhouse is free of charge. I can invest more into the contents that will eventually be deposited into the outhouse, rather than having to budget for disposal services themselves. CP gets the money either way, but their sewage fees may be increased due to the larger payloads ;)

^Not to worry about the payloads, after all, they did that routine lagoon maintenance project a while back to address the anticipated increase.
Boyd & Wurthman always has people lined up out onto the sidewalk, in peril of being crashed into by a wayward buggy. We've usually went to over-priced Farmstead, instead.
Glad to hear that CP is on top of their water treatment facilities, routine lagoon maintenance project was much needed on the peninsula. As we all know, Thunder Canyon uses lake water. If the payloads cannot be properly handled by lagoon water treatment, the risk of spreading disease is large. Props to CP management for investing in necessary infrastructure while expanding the most delicious food options!
