pants and breaks question

Hey I'm uncomfortable wearing shorts and I was wondering if pants were an option, and if so do they come standard or do I have to buy them separately.

Also, I'm going to be a restroom attendant and I was wondering if I'm going to be expected to do the whole 9 hr shift in one go or if I get breaks.

And where is Section 1?

Thanks.

I know for those under 18, you must get a 15 minute break for every 4.5 hours worked. Atleast thats how it is in Michigan.

Anything over 8 hours in Michigan must be accompanied by a 1/2 hour break. I would assume its pretty close to something like that in Ohio as well.

I'm not sure how Cedar Point handles their breaks, but I do know that in Ohio, once you turn 18, you are no longer gaurenteed breaks; whether it be a short break or a meal break. Although... I'm relatively sure that Cedar Point does give them.

In merchandise, minors get a half hour break every five hours. But if your not a minor, 6-8 hours is given a half hour, 8-10 hours is given an hour, and 10+ hours is given an hour break and then a half hour break.

Last year, in rides, these were the possible shifts we could have:

Open-1:30p (4 hrs w/15 min break)
Open-6p (9.5 hrs w/45 min lunch and 15 min break)
Open-8p (11.5 hrs w/45 min lunch and 30 min break, get off when all breaks are done)
11:30a-6p (6.5 hrs with 45-min lunch)
11:30a-8p (8.5 hrs with 45-min lunch and 15-min break, get off when all breaks are done)
1:30p-6 (4.5 hrs with 15-min break)
1:30p-8 (6.5 hrs with 45-min lunch, get off when all breaks are done)
Split (Open-1:30p and 6p-Close; 6.5, 8.5, or 9.5 hrs with a 15 min break during each half)
6p-Close (2.5, 4.5, or 5.5 hrs with 15-min break)
1:30p-Close (7, 9, or 10 hrs with 45-min lunch and 15-min break)
11:30a-Close (9, 11, or 12 hrs with 45-min lunch and 30-min break)
Open-Close (11.5, 13.5, or 14.5 hrs w/45 min lunch, 30 min break, and 15 min break)

I imagine it would be the same this year.

14.5 hours worked...damn, that is partially the reason i turned down a job at CP this summer. I was hired over the phone for Zone 3, as a red tag ride operator. They said id be moved around quite a bit for the first month and then get settled somewhere. Quick question, whats in zone 3.

You'll be in restrooms, so your breaks should be as follows:

Your first breaks can start three hours after you started working. You get 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute break. If you open, your first break can start at 10 a.m. It will be a 15-minute break. You'll get a 30-minute break about two hours later. I'm not sure if you'll get another 15-minute break before your shift ends at 3 p.m.

When you have a closing shift, breaks end two hours before the park closes.

No one is allowed to go entire shifts without breaks. That's illegal. It's even frowned upon. If you skip your breaks, you could be written up. *** Edited 5/9/2006 5:17:42 PM UTC by Haux***

1,146 rides on Raptor. Three rides in 2009.

Hey, I am a former restroom attendant, albeit from a few years ago.

1) I can sympathize with you on not liking shorts. I was never offered the option of pants - I do not know if they even have them available or not. Maybe in special cases I do remember there being one guy I worked with who wore pants. You can ask...not sure what they will say. Although, it gets really hot walking around out there - shorts really are the more common sense option.

2) Unless you are a minor, or contracted to a set shift, you could find your shifts being a lot longer than 9 hours, possibly between 10-15. But that all depends on the level of staffing. You could also work 7 hour or shorter shifts as well. It changed every week, basically. As for breaks you do get plenty. Usually every 2 hours or so.

3) Section 1 (do you mean Area 1? Or do they call it Section 1 now?) covers the front half of the park. I don't know if they changed it since I left, but from what I know, Area 1 covers the restrooms from the main entrance back to Iron Dragon, Matterhorn and Coasters. Also, the Marina restrooms as well.

I know in ohio, for minors you are required to have a 30 min break if you are working 5 or more hours. I think for adults you're not guarenteed a break.

Really? Me thinks that's a violation of Federal labor law.

I've lent out my 2005 Employee Handbook, so I can't read what it states....I'll get it back soon.

Actually most states don't have a law mandating breaks for adult employees. I think it is up to each specific company how many breaks they want to give. At my home park, where I worked after Cedar Point, all I had was one 30 minute break if my shift was longer than 8 hours. As far as breaks go, CP is really nice, at least in my experience.

I just got done reading the Ohio code, and because CP's gross income exceeds a certain amount ($500,00/yr) the Federal codes superceeds the state one. In a nutshell yes under Federal law they are NOT required to give you any breaks (I stand corrected on that).Yes it does vary from state to state. I t also depends upon whether your job, or where you work covered by a union contract. In CA they are required to give one 30 min lunch break (unpaid) and two ten minute breaks(paid) per eight hour shift. Under six hours they are only required to give on ten minute break. These are the rules that they must follow at Knotts. Also, you can not work longer than five hours with out a lunch break. If you work five hours and one minute before going to lunch the company owes you one hours pay. They have gotten really strict about that out here. All the supervisors where I work spend half the time watching the time clocks.
