Overtime?

If you work past 40 hours a week do you get overtime? That's how it is here in Virginia and it was that way in New York when I worked there. Does Ohio have the same thing? And how do they figure it if overtime is scheduled like that? Time and a Half? Double time? Thanks!

No. You'll get paid the same rate no matter how many hours you work.
Overtime? What's Overtime? Since it's seasonal, apparently there is not such thing as overtime, although they do get a bit testy if you work over 80 hours ;)

Cedar Point doesnt pay overtime because they are seasonal. They come right under the seasonal law with just about 7 and 1/2 months or something like that. ;)

Yeah, Matt hit it right on the head. Seasonal employees do not qualify for overtime (oh, if they did...). But yeah, I hit 80+ hours a few times and I had to talk to them about that. I couldn't tell if they were concerned about my health or their pockets, but either way, it was a fun summer.

My last park I worked was Silver Dollar City in Missouri and they made you sign an overtime wavier if you wanted to work more then 40 hours if you did not sign the wavier you only got 20 hours a week. I will say that I think it is great that Cedar Point pays a bonus as the only thing you get from SDC is a pink slip and your choise of a ham or turkey as SDC is open till the end of December. I think no overtime pay is the same at all seasonal parks around the country.

Can you imagine what we'd make if we got overtime? This would be the ultimate job!

And add that dollar more onto our bonuses (for those of us that make it). I would drop out of school.

If they didn't qualify for overtime then they'd do what my old Six Flags park used to do and put you on a salary. You needed to work at least 40 hours to get it, but the thing is most of us supervisors over there were putting in around 65/70 and getting the same salary. It figures out to be right around minimum wage and sometimes less. I can recall at least 3 weekends from that summer where I put in 80 hours and still got the same amount...

Trust me, this isn't a bad deal at all, especially when you factor in that you're guaranteed a bonus as long as you don't quit early or whatnot. Where I was you wouldn't get a bonus unless your place made it's budget, which was next to impossible since the numbers were always unrealistically high and the staffing was so horrible you couldn't ever be working to capacity.

At any rate, don't knock CP's deal. It's quite competitive in it's market.

If CP was required to pay overtime, which has been stated that they are not due to federal laws regarding seasonal workers, one of two things would happen.

1. The park would not build such nice new rides as TTD, and the guests would get bad service due to low staffing.

2. They would add another set or 2 of bunk beds into every dorm room and hire more workers, and then let you only work 40 hour weeks (so now you get even less money than you would if they just didnt have to pay the over time).

No overtime isn't such a bad thing. You make up for it with the number of hours you work.

Damn, I thoguth we got overtime. Now without overtime, I will be making $210 less a week than my normal job for the same ammount of hours.

David Larson

How many hours per week do you work at your normal job?

My question is why ppl. on here are telling me that I shouldn't knock CP for not giving overtime! I was just asking.....It happens the same way here at PKD and I was just wondering if it was the same at CP, and it is. Geesh!!

Settle down, Crazy. The point was that even though you don't get overtime, it's still a very good deal considering the "competition." There was no fury aimed at you.
the only place that pays overtime at cedar point is breakers express and they will not let you work over 38 hrs there unless they absolutely have to have you work more .
Don't forget Bay Harbour... they have Overtime ;-)
I'm working at CP this summer in wardrobe and they said I would most likely be working from 7am-3pm. If I wanted more hours then that, would I just ask them?
