Over hyping?

I am ecstatic to be working at Cedar Point this summer, but am over hyping it? Is it really that great, or is it just another job that pays you money for your services?

It is what you make it. I would definitely say go in with high hopes. But don't over hype it because while it IS the best amusement park in the world and you'll surely have a fantastic summer, over hyping anything in your life can make it seem not as good as what it actually is. I went in with an open mind but very excited and had the BEST summer of my life.

If you are truly a Ride Warrior at heart, nothing compares to living & working at CP.
All last season I rode as much as I could every day and it never got old. Especially Windseeker, Power Tower, MF, & the Dragster.
My teammates at work would often ask to take my shifts because they knew I valued the thrills more than the money.
Adrenaline - my drug of choice. And that's no hype!

Haha thanks for the replies! Im excited for this opportunity to work here. I also applied for the experience more than the money. Im hoping this will be a fantastic summer meeting new people and having some special memories. For this to be the best summer of my life it will have to top last summer though which was great! (Included my first time going to Cedar Point) I will try not to hype it up too much. :)

Exactly what "theatc99" said. Working there is what you make it. Always go in with a positive attitude. Any problems you have out of work, leave them there. Guests don't care if you had a bad day because they expect to have the best day. It will be a job you will never forget and you'll meet people that you will become close with, including guests that come regularly. I've worked at the park for the past 8 years and looking for my 9th and each year gets better.Just go into it with a positive attitude, don't be afraid to talk to new people, and just have fun. The more fun you have, the more fun and relaxed whatever crew you're in will be and the guests will see that and it can turn the whole day around.

I agree. Cedar Point is what you make of it. Some people love it and some people don't last. Yes, housing is not the greatest, but you're not there much.

One advice that I would give any "ride warrior" at heart: There is a time to work, and a time to play. If you're schedule to work, be there, or at least make sure you're shift is covered. It doesn't look very good if you're coming off the Gemini on your way to the Maverick when you're spouse to be at work. And you can get in major trouble for it. (I'm not saying all first year "ride warriors will do this, but make sure you realize that work comes first)...

Ironically, some folks have no interest in the park at all, and are always willing to take on extra hours. As long as the supervisor is cool with it - it's a win/win, IMO.

Do employees have to wait in line? I would hope you guys get to walk in the back door so to speak.

You'll have to wait like the general public or get a Fastlane Pass. (No discount)

Unfortunately, employees have to wait in line as well. Employees have to be in street clothing (anything but your uniform - ie. pair of shorts / tshirt). Basically, when at the park to "have fun", employees have to follow the rules just like every other guest at the park. Except we get to use our IDs to get into the park.

It is very exciting when you begin. The park is so majestic and enchanting and at first everything is an adventure. There is so much to see and learn. So many people to meet.

But like any low wage customer service job, is does get redundant and stressful. It's hard to be working while surrounded by people who are obnoxiously happy because they are having probably the most fun day of their summer.

When it came to how much fun I had, it all depended on what my schedule was like. My first season I was working 7 days a week, 12-14 hours a day. There was no time leftover to have any fun or enjoy myself. But in later seasons I had more normal hours, and occasionally even would get two days off a week. When you have a balance between work and play, it makes it bearable. Cedar Point is a great place to live, as long as you have the time to enjoy it.

I met some of the best people while working there. Be prepared for a sad final goodbye when everybody starts to leave and go back to school!

Sounds like I am in for a great summer as long as I keep my mind open. I am looking forward to meeting a lot of people.

There is a lot of GLBT individual working at the park. So, you cannot successfully work at the park and be a homophobic. Also, there several people who are internationals. Learn from them.

Some things like that don't need to be said... really has nothing to do with the original question. Just saying.
