outside housing

Are you allowed to find your own apartment outside of CP? A couple friends and I were thinking of just renting our own place for the summer...will we still have to pay for a dorm @ CP?

Yes you can find a place but there are several problems with the idea.

Rent in Sandusky goes up very quickly in the summer. It's not cheap.

Secondly, VERY few places will rent out to CP employee's because of the short timespan that they are there and the constant possibility of them being fired, just up and leaving, or other various reasons for heading out of Sandusky and back to home.

In other words, unless you're looking for a year lease, I wouldn't plan on it.

Thanx for the info..I only got this idea b/c I saw an add online for a 3 br, which is what me and my friends would need, for 475$ a month + elec. There is a month to month lease...I've never had my own apartment before...I live in a dorm virtually year round, does this sound shady--month to month lease? Thanx again...

Month-to-Month leases aren't uncommon but if they decide not to renew you where are you all going to go?

Also, there are some areas of Sandusky that I would NOT recommend you live so you might want to research that.

Mmm, $475 a month for a three bedroom??? That, to me, sounds shady in and of itself. Maybe it's just from living here in Pittsburgh where the rent is usually $475 a month for a STUDIO apartment. But I have to wonder just how crappy that 3-bedroom is gonna be, especially with the rent being that low in a TOURIST area.

I don't know, but to me, it just sounds like it would be an awful lot of unnecessary hassle to get a non-CP apartment. Plus you would miss out on a valuable part of the experience! (Or at least I thought I met a lot more people through living in Cedar Point housing, and I enjoyed that.)

Even though Sandusky is not a large town there are areas of town to stay the heck away from! That 475/month apartment has just gotta be in one of em!
I had an apt. in Sandusky a year ago. We (don't ask) paid 465 a month plus electric for a 2 bedroom apt. It was in a decent part of town not far from the park at all. The others are right there are parts of Sandusly to stay out of but 475 for a 3 bedroom sounds about right even a little on the cheap side considering what we were paying. Electric can get you in the butt when you aren't looking. And rent didn't go up in the summer. We were always looking for a new place and the prices seemed to say the same through the winter as well as the summer.

What are the areas to stay away from? And what are the nice areas? Anyone know anything about Foxborough Commons?

it is all one big trailer park........

ok, so a no for Foxborough Commons. What about Country Set Apartments on Shoreway Drive or Lake Point Apartments? Any suggestions?

Lake Point Apartments are very nice. It's really close to the park. I don't remember if they have month to month lease though. I do know they have a year lease.

They do not have a month to month lease at Lake Point. It's a 1 year lease and then yearly renewals after that. *** Edited 4/20/2005 1:00:13 AM UTC by Red Garter Rob***
