Our Old Friend Demon Drop

I like 10 walk-on Demon Drop rides better than one, 30 min. wait Power Tower ride. Demon Drop is so much more scary with all of its clanging and banging anyways!
When I was younger I always wanted them to "finish" the demon drop and make it a full ciruit coaster.:)
Good point Brent.

I don't think they should remove D.D., but it doesn't do much for the C.P. skyline in my opinion...I'd like to see it moved to an area of the park where it would blend in w/ the scenery a little better (but I would never want to bring up that ugly word theme again).

At any rate, it would be missed.

Keep it!

Demon Drop is a great ride. I like it much more than PT. I think the sound it makes is cool. I just wish it was taller! And Brent is right, it wouldnt free up very much land. But if they ever decided to move it, it would be great where the Gemini bathrooms are now.

What if there was a #17 in 2003?

As much as it looks and sounds like a "clunker" at the front of the park, I think its current location is great. You don't really even have to open your eyes to know that you've gotten through the main gates and are in the park, and I think it adds a lot to the atmosphere of the front of the park. Somewhere in the past couple of days I've seen something about Cedar Point retaining a late-70s amusement park feel, and although I have NO basis whatsoever to say what the late 70s were like, when I see Demon Drop, thats the era that comes to mind.

And Playa, if they ever remove DD, I'll fight ya for putting it in my backyard! (actually there's an Intamin 1stGen for sale on usedrides.com ;) )

Demon Drop was my first baby, she was built the year i was born, when i applied to Cedar Point for the summer of 2002 I was to work on the Demon Drop. I had to test ride her every day, and even though i knew exactly when she was gonna fall ( down to the last second, every sound she made.....after so many times you just know when shes gonna let you go!) i still had that rush of energy going through my body thinking that i was scared (and i'm not scared of any rides!) she can't leave, i can still hear those sounds even after not working on her for 6 months now, I was transfered to the Wicked Twister in June and if she was where DD was at it wouldn't be the same, no wind from the lake, and all the guests right there, WT is so loud when launching it wouldn't be the same as the DD and all the clunks and what nots that it does, thats what makes it a great ride. they better not take it out!

Does Teenie Weenie know how to rub it in or what?

The CPlaya 100--6 days, 9 parks, 47 coasters, 2037 miles and a winner.....LoCoSuMo.

Maybe they can wedge Demon Drop in the middle of #16. That would make for an interesting interaction between two rides.
Man, that was "THE RIDE" in it's day!!! I am just amazed how things have changed since...
In 93 my first season i had just turned 9 and my first ride was Demon Drop and I rode it every year after. Then in 98, the only year that i have missed, came Power Tower. In 99 I rode both Power Tower and DD. In 00-01-02 I have rode PT but not DD. It was my first ride but why ride it when u have a 60 feet taller version a little further down. I say down with DD we dont really need it nemore. Oddly enough DD was featured in one of my math books. It was a story problem on proportions that involved finding the height using its shadow, so if they still use that book, kids would be like where is DD, but oh well tear it down
I think that PT is around 110 feet taller, but I still say that Demon Drop gives a more genuine free-fall experience.

Launch: Tophat: Twistage: Brakes...

...Denial is an ugly thing.

Demon Drop is the only ride in the park that IS freefall, you won't get that from any other ride....Yes thats right not even Power Tower.....and yes Coasta Playa i will rub it in now that you mention it! j/k ;)

I feel old! Demon Drop opened the spring I graduated from high school. I don't think you have to worry about the ride leaving anytime soon. It is still very popular and takes up such a small space I doubt you could put much there.

BTW, I have an old brochure somewhere in my attic that advertises the ride as "Demon's Drop". I think it was a brochure for the campground as said something like "Demon's Drop coming in 1983" or something like that.

The biggest thing that gives CP that 70's ish feeling are the rows of the molded plastic bench seats in orange and white and all of the other Brady Bunch themed items. Such as yellow and orange fiberglass tables, chairs, and matching umbrellas. Especially the millions of trash cans with the very old slogan "The Amazement Park". Some of the items really aren't the prettiest but CP does a very good job of maintaining what they have and it does give a different feel and uniquness to the park versus Batman whatever I just rode or Superman wherever I was just at or on or bought? And as for the Demon Drop, I remember when my little sister and I went on it for the first time. She screamed her head off the entire way up but didnt make a sound on the way down!! That was one of the funniest moments I have ever experienced at the park but I like the "Real" drop feeling on it. So I say keep it!
Demon Drop stays. :-) I still get the butterflies for that ride as well. Can't tell you why. Perhaps I'm afraid I won't make it off in one piece?

So, I was reading the book "Rollercoaster" by David Bennett and he calls Demon Drop a rollercoaster.
Is it a rollercoaster? Why does no one else call it a rollercoaster?
And furthermore in the book (available at your local library) on page 180 is a photograph labeled as Demon Drop but doesn't really look right.

Thanks!
