Our Old Friend Demon Drop

What does everyone think of Demon Drop? It does hold somewhat of a special spot in my heart being as it opened the same season as my first visit to CP. It was also once quite a thrilling ride. I am one of the last people who like’s to see any attraction go. But since Wicked Twister was installed I began to see why sometimes ride removal is necessary and just a part of the business. I thought that the space WT occupies was always going to be the site of a wooden twister. I love WT and am not questioning why they built it. IMO WT could have been built where Demon Drop currently sits. Not only would it replace what now seems the “kiddy power tower”, it would have allowed for that much wanted wood on the beach(which I think would have been an awesome site). Demon Drop does have somewhat of a different ride sensation than Power Tower, but it just seems a tad redundant to have 2 drop rides. All of us have become accustomed to seeing DD in the CP skyline as you cross the causeway and it always makes some people sad when a ride goes. But at some point, we do have to say goodbye to some of these thrill machines. I would be a little sad to see it go, but I know it would be in the name of progress (I hope). What do you all think?

I think it should most deffinitly stay. The ride is still fairly popular, and it still delivers a good thrill. Not everyone is ready to tackle Power Tower, and they can ride Demon Drop to get the feeling of a freefall ride. Lots of airtime, too.

The sound of Demon Drop alone is a reason to keep it. Can you imagine going to cedar point and not hearing Demon Drop. I love that sound so much.

I have to agree, I would be very upset if Demon Drop was taken from Cedar Point. Everyone seems to want to upgrade to something newer but sometimes, thing that are old are worth more. More in memories and more in good times. Demon drop still has it. It is a first generation free fall that still works and is still a lot of fun. Just because it isn't 300 ft tall doesn't mean that it is useless.

If everyone thought like this then by now Blue Streak would have been replaced because it is old and there could be other things in its place. People wouldn't be so mad that Cedar Point took out Pirate Ride and other rides that were old but fun. Let Demon Drop stay. It doesn't take up a lot of space and it is the first thing I ride when I get to Cedar Point.

I myself have had good times on Demon Drop. Like I said, I don't like to see rides get taken out. I'm just thinking out of all the "major thrill rides" CP has, I would pick that one first out of all of them if I had to pull one out. I know it would upset people. However, I'm coaster minded and my wish of WT being where DD is would have made room for a nice woody on the beach.

Funny thing, I remember my dad getting all worked up when they took out mile race to make room for Raptor. So I can see where a lot of people are coming from on this subject.

No way! Demon Drop is the only way to start your day at The Point. It's like a cup of strong espresso in the morning. I remember its debut year, the frequent breakdowns, and hoping it was me stuck up there! Personally out of all the rides, Mine Ride doesn't affect me at all thrill wise. Every other "small" coaster gets me at some point or another, but not that one. It sure takes up a lot of space as well. I know they would never remove it, but it gets my vote.

I have been hitting the Point since the early '70's and I have never ridden Demon Drop. Heck, I rode Mantis for the first time this year!

I guess I'm just not into free fall rides. I did not like Tower of Terror, am afraid of PowerTower, and have never ridden Demon Drop.

But I love Maggie & Millie.

Go figure.

I still remember my first ride on the 'Drop...I was probably 7 (or maybe 8) years old at the time. We waited in line for almost an hour as it was a typical Saturday in August day at the park. I was fine through the whole wait, the entire time we were being secured in the car, and even during the accent up the shaft. But as soon as the car did that little pop of airtime at the top and began to move out to the drop zone I freaked. I remember saying "I don't think I want to ride anymore" and then BOOM! the car dropped. Still one of my best rides ever on that contraption :)

I love Demon Drop. I ride it just about every time that i go to CP. I couldnt imagine being there without it, its such a staple in Cedar Points history, that it cannot be removed. Also, i think that it acts as a "preliminary" ride to the Power Tower Turbo Drop, although mighty different, it can get a person to feel what it is like to freefall, just not as high up in the air.

I wouldn't mind Demon Drop's disappearance at all--as long as it reappeared in my backyard. Other than that, major problem with its departure.

Demon Drop will be 20 next year, I wonder if it will get props for being 2 decades old...as well as Gemini being 25 years old. I like Demon Drop. The lines are always relatively short, and it's nice to see the pennies fly up and out of the car.

Seeing pennies fly up and out of the car may be a nice thing to see, but it's not a nice thing to have them land on you.

I think DD has had a full life, and if it were to be replaced I would like to see a Huss Giant Frisbee in it's spot. Or a new Huss Topple Tower...

I'd rather ride something new (like a Huss) than that old, cluncky, steel contraption.

Until Power Tower, Demon Drop was a must, although I disliked it mostly because of that slam into the back when the car dropped back into the station. We haven't ridden it in a couple years now.

They have the roof in the way of the pennies for a reason. :) I like the feeling DD gives me...that "losing the stomach" feeling. I don't think that they should get rid of it.

Demon Drop is the scariest ride in the park, in my opinion, and its a 10/10. Keeper!
I love the Demon Drop. It is a must ride for me almost everytime I go to CP. The drop is nice, the pull out is great, the slam when going back to the station sucks, "but 2 out of 3 aint bad". I personaly would not like to see this one go anywhere, plus it looks so good at the front of the park like that.

While Demon Drop is one of my least favorite rides in the park, I think Cedar Point will keep it until it physically cannot run anymore, for the same reason they still have Corkscrew and Blue Streak. It's a classic ride that takes up a small amount of space. By removing it, not only will they anger fans, but they will be freeing up very little space to put a new attraction.

Demon Drop has a very different sensation than Power Tower. It should stay for a long, long time. It's still a great ride and would be missed.

Florida may have Disneyworld and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!
