Our First Trip This Weekend - Castaway Bay

This will be our first trip to CP - and our first real time where all the kids are tall enough that all 6 of us can ride together as a family! (and probably the last since grandbaby is here now and the whole theme-park-with-a-child thing has begun again)

We're coming in from Indiana - about 6 hours away and I've booked us at Castaway Bay. Looking forward to whatever-the-heck-I want-to-do time while the kids enjoy the water park Sat after we get there.

Then Sunday we have the main course! Cedar Point!

When I booked the trip there was only 30% chance of rain that day - now it's up to 70%. Not sure how that will work out but we're committed now. I've got this thing in motion and had to align the stars to get everyone's schedule set to be able to leave town for 2 days. Boys are on fall break, older kids got off work, etc, my mom is keeping the grand baby, and husbands schedule is blocked off with steel and granite - we're all set.

I think it will still be fun - I'm determined to ride as much as I can, rain or shine and come what may.
But.... if someone wants to reassure me that'd be great! ha!

Bring rain gear for Sunday! Not looking good! We will be there all weekend at Breakers and was hoping to go into the park on Sunday before we leave. Hopefully it holds off!

Mr. Optimist here.

I've seen a gazillion forecasts for rainouts over the years only to have them be completely wrong. As pass holders that only live an hour form CP we chance it all of the time. I'd said 80% of the time they forecast a washout for Cleveland CP is dry or only has a little rain. So I hope that makes you feel better.

Any chance of going to CP Saturday too? I think they have a two day ticket deal. Castaway Bay is nice but, you can only spend so much time in the water park without repeating. depending on when you arrive, you should be able to get a good amount of time at both places. CP will be crowded on Saturday, but you can still do plenty of things besides the marquee coasters. They are open until midnight.

That's what I was afraid of. Wondering if we should just call it and try to go again some other time. :-//
I'll lose some money already deposited, but not as much as if we go and aren't able to do anything.

@Clevelandkid:
Didn't see this when I posted before! Yes, that does make me feel better - thanks! :)
Wish Saturday could be an option. I'm mulling options around in my mind to try and make that work.
I've read some things here since posting that mirror what you've said as well though and it sounds like there's a great chance Sunday could just as easily turn out to be the perfect day for it....

I had a feeling you were writing when I posted.

I hope the weather turns out to be good. I wish I could guarantee the rainy forecast will be wrong.

Yeah, dont call it off! Didnt mean to frighten you off, just saying to bring the stuff expecting rain and hope for the best!

Probably should've worded that better!

Sunday's forecast doesn't look great, but as others have mentioned, complete washouts are rare. As long as there's no lightning, most coasters will probably run with one train even if it does rain all day.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

Thanks guys! I'm so excited! :D

Please let us know how everything worked out for you.

Our trip was fantastic! Weather was great and I even shed a few layers! lol
There was a bit of wind which shut down a few of the rides - unfortunately didn't get to try dragster, but LOVED millennium!!! OMW! What an awesome ride.

We had the early entry but squandered it trying to make sense of the layout and what rides were/weren't open, etc. BUT - so thankful we had an extra hour to figure all of that out. AND - next time we'll know to go straight to millennium. hahaha

Castaway Bay was perfect for our 11 - 12 year old boys too.
Just as a note for folks who may be planning to stay there in the future - the hotel itself isn't that great - very outdated. I've stayed in nicer hotels with nice bedding and such for much less. BUT - those hotels didn't have a water park inside them... lol

We had the breakfast buffet at CP too and it had everything from fruit to eggs and bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, cereal, donuts, OJ, Choc milk, etc, etc.

Also as a FYI for trip planning purposes: There is a TGI Fridays on site at CB, but prices are a tad higher and they don't have the special combo offers there. Nice big restaurant tho! And nice food too. ;)

Oh! And definitely the fast lane passes!!! LOVED them. So worth every penny - especially when you're trying to make it through the park with 6 people in a group. lol I don't think we'll ever do a park again without the fast passes. They're not like at Disney where you have to take a ticket and come back to the ride at a certain time - there's a whole different lane for the FL riders. We never had any real wait except for waiting to ride front seat, which we could afford to do time-wise with the FL passes.
Some of the FL entrances were a little difficult to find, but even with a little wandering around we saved so much time by having them. Did I say how much I loved it? ha!

When you say you did the breakfast buffet at CP, do you mean at the Breakwater Cafe? I'm going to CP this Sat. and was thinking of giving it a try before the park opens. I tried digging up some info about it here on the forums but most of the stuff I found was pretty outdated.
