Other improvements besides rides...

I think there is a lot that could be done to really make CP look absolutely great.  Granted it's better looking than other parks I've been too, I still think CP looks rather dead and dirty.  ESPECIALLY the parking lot. I think we all can agree that the parking isn't stunning. Even though it is just a parking lot, It is the first thing you see after the causeway... for a first timer, I think it is a bit to ugly, especially the bent out of shape fence on the lake side.  The pavement is rather old.  I think it's time for an major overhaul to make the parkin glot a little more presentable.  I think the main entrance could be brighter at night.  I think it's just a little on the dark side.  I think the park could use either better lighting overall, or a livelier color scheme that will look dazzling in the light.  I think the Gemini station is a step towards this. What do you think about this?  Any other thoughts about improvments?

I think that 50 trees thrown in a few spaces in the paking lot would make it look a lot nicer.

My opinion: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

What would be cool is one of those LED boards at the enterances or at high-traffic areas. I've seen LED boards at Universal Studios, they show wait times for rides, etc.

Back in the day I heard that Mantis, I believe, was the next coaster to get painted. Anybody know if this is true?

mikey

If all goes as planned, then yep.
Yes... this year... then magnum.

The front of the park, main-midway area, is starting to look like a parking lot itself.  There is just so much potential and the fountains that they were going to add for this year was a step in the right direction, but that never happened.

But hey... I still like the place, but trees are good!

"Your obssesed w/ that place aren't you?"

CP actually spent quite alot renovating the the parking lot last year.  If you haven't noticed, they've added lighting and got rid of the old parking signs.  I think some minor landscaping has also occured towards the entrance gates, like the banner brackets in front.

Does anyone know if they are planning to do the fountains this year?

I love fall...
The cool, brisk air...
The brightly colored leaves...
The amusement park announcements...
I seem to recall when I was a kid they had flying banners in the parking lot. Of course, I seem to recall a tram too. But quite frankly, a parking lot is a parking lot, and when I'm driving up the causway, and entering the lot, I'm not looking at the lot, but at those coasters on the horizon!

"and got rid of the old parking signs"

I hope you don't consider that an improvement :) It's much harder to find the car now, especially if I'm not close the gate. I also just miss them ... kind of like those ride character signs.

Trees, Trees, and more Trees.  Did someone say trees.  Thats all we need.  An improvement that is free that wouldn't cost them anything is rerides.  :)  I mean come on.  When I enter the Magnum station and there are just three or four people in there or there is NO one in there and I have to walk around that doesn't make sense to me.  They are so budget focused if they want to get the most for their money just allow rerides.

I think they may actually redo the parking lot this off season because it is in dier need of it, especially when it floods. WHen I went up there to go to the park and it would rain, my group and I would go get some chow but have to go through 2 feet of water in places though.

If anything, that would be the first thing. I agree on the LCD Board, that would be a nice imporvement especially when you're waiting in line at the toll booths. Good suggestions, just will they be used. lol :)

Ohh come on Dan.. you know the re-ride thing... it's all about ticks on the turnstyle... ;)

It's THEIR clicker.. hehehe

LED boards outside the park may be a bad idea. If someone coming to a park on a Saturday around noon sees there is 2 hour wait for Millennium Force they just might turn right back around. Heck, we paid to park once when we parked on the grass, said screw it and left! (back then parking was like $2 though)

Inside the park, LED boards placed at good locations would be great, even though the signs are never right to begin with. (although I like them that way ;))

Watch out, the Space Pirates pinch.

Do you really think that Cedar Point would do something as foolish as have an LED board tell you to go home, we are too busy?  The busier it is, the more food is bought, games are played, and souvenirs/clothing are bought.  The rides run all day regardless if the line is 100 people or 1,000.  the more people in the park means more money.
One improvement that still needs work is their merchandise.  The MF jackets are a step in the right direction but some of the other stuff they sell is pretty gawdy.  I still don't understand why you just can't buy a t-shirt that says Magnum on it with the logo.  Why not an MF shirt that says ranked #1 in the world?

They made a huge improvements this year but need to keep going and I think Joe E would agree, don't buy material that fades in the sunlight rapidly.

umm..actually the LED board was my idea in the first place. To have one inside the park at the front, and back listing ride status for the major coasters...Epcot has this and it works rather well..

I understand where you are coming from Rob, but still they can keep count in the control booth or something.

I agree with matt, merchandise needs some help.  How hard is it to make a Magnum polo shirt or a Magnum jacket.

Dan, we were keeping track of rerides on a hand clicker during the JCC mornings before we were told no more rerides.  I understand that they don't want people hanging around on the platform looking for empty seats to fill in, but in the case of Millennium Mania and Joe Cool Club, I think rerides should be allowed.

Or in the end you could just risk copyright issues and print/sew your own shirts and/or jackets....

A simple polo shirt with the Millennium Force logo shouldn't be too much to ask for...
