Options for Housing?

Julesxx's avatar

This will be my first year working at Cedar Point (as a reservation clerk!) and I was wondering what kind of housing options there are. I heard that there are apartments for employees to live in, and i'd rather live there than a dorm (i'm already living at a dorm in college, and i've heard some bad things about the dorms at CP). Also, i was wondering if the housing HAS to come out of your paycheck?

If you live in CP housing. Your rent is automatically taken out of your paycheck. No options.

There are 2 different choices for apartments and 2 different choices for dorms.

First of all there is Golds, it is an all girls dorm on point, so it's right outside the park. It can be very convenient if you don't have a car, since you would just have to wake up and walk into the park. But Golds doesn't have a/c in the rooms. It's a lot older than the other options. Another downfall is that if you go grocery shopping, you have to carry everything through the park to the dorm. Personally I don't like Golds cause of how old it is, no a/c, and lots of spiders. I've never lived in Golds, but I had a friend who lived there and hated it. Plus it closes early, so if you're doing weekends you'll have to move to Commons eventually.

Your second option is Bayside apartments. But by time you get there, there may not be room. It's mostly used to Castaway Bay employees, and Cops. They have 2 or 3 bedrooms with 3-4 girls in each room. With one bathroom. Bayside also doesn't have a/c at all in the apartment. It's nice because it's away from the craziness of Commons, but not my first choice for housing. I lived there for a few months one season, and moved to commons as soon as it opened.

Your third option is Commons apartments. There is 5 bedrooms with 3-4 girls in each room. That's 15-20 girls sharing one apartment. There is only 2 bathrooms, so imagine how each morning is getting ready for work. There is a common area with a kitchen/living room that does have a/c, but not in the bedrooms. It's not a horrible option, but I wouldn't choose it ever again. One season was enough for me.

Your fourth and best option is Commons Dorms. Each room has 3-4 girls. With community bathrooms in each hallway. You have 2 buildings to choose from. 1300's is all girls...normally. And 1500s has boys and girls. 1300s is a lot quieter and nicer, but 1500s is a lot of fun. Both buildings are good options. All the rooms have a/c so thats def a plus because it gets crazy hot in the room during the summer. The rooms aren't very big, but that's the case no matter where you live. I personally like 1300s better than 1500s. The only negative about 1300s is that is closes after labor day, so you'd have to move to 1500s is you're doing weekends.

You won't spend much time in your room, regardless of where you live. So size shouldn't be a deciding factor.

Hope this helps. =)

what are the rooms like in the breakers? are they really worse then commons?

Living in the hotel ain't too shabby...particularly if you get a long with that other roommate.

The old parts of the hotel where employees stay is very active with hauntings a lady jumped from the balcony back when it was just a beach and hotel i have heard the lady's ghost walks the halls and slams doors and sometimes you can see her walking the hallways and she hangs out in one of the rooms as for the other cedar point housing bayside was for a Juvenile Detention Center that cedar point bought years ago i believe the Commons Dorms across from bayside were also used as a Juvenile Detention Center if you look at bayside you will still see razor wire on the top of the fence so will you at the Commons Dorms across from bayside all housing on the point was all put in by cedar point as for Commons apartments i believe they were used for staff that stayed on site 24/7 in the winter the only reason they wanted the detention center near cedar point was to teas the juvenile's bayside was built in the early 70's Common Apartments were put there in the 80's as for common dorms i think they were put in the same time as bayside bayside still uses fuse's for there electrical and so does common apartments and common dorms

dang! are you trying to scare us or something?!

Despite their appearance, I'm pretty sure the CP dorms were never detention centers. Although I did once see a father yank their kid out of HR while processing in after being told those were indeed the dorms and not a prison like he thought.

The ghost in Breakers is Mary. She's a friendly ghost.

A ghost ?! Seriously?! that's encouraging !:P

Reservation Clerk 2011 !

you can go to city hall and ask or the juvenile center and ask them i am not trying to scare anyone just wanting you to know what cp housing is really like it is listed in the city records even the library can help you they recently built a nice juvenile faculty not to far from cedar point ask some old folks

^ Woah, use a period. And I have also never heard of the dorms formerly being a detention center.

ive never heard of it either, and yes jules, the ghost is name mary, the reservations has two floors and on the upstairs reservations office floor it gets really cold up there and you can hear stuff thruogh the vents in the bathroom, lol, but you will be ok, nothing scary

I know it was a pretty big rumor last season that the dorms were a juvenile detention center but I don't think it was ever confirmed. IMO it seems like they could've been by the way the complex is designed, but it also seems like a really weird placement for a juvie center so I doubt its true. I'm sure you'll hear people talking about it next season.

Depending when you process in Defff try and get a place in the apartments..NOT THE DORMS...you'll hate your life if you go into the dorms...a little secret (dont let them tell you that theres no room...just be persistant and make sure you get what you want!)

Jessca, thanks for clarifying things to me :)

One more thing, I was wondering if I have to book a place to stay in Common Dorms before I get there, or I could get a room once I come in Cedar Point? Is there a chance to choose a roommates, cause I'm coming with two male friends, and I would like to be with them in the room? Is it possible for boys and girls to be in the same room in Common Dorm 1500?

Thanks

You can't reserve a room before you get here, but you can have someone hold a bed for you.

No, there's no way to have a co-ed room, with the exception of being married to someone, and you have to have proof that you are legally married. The way 1500s works, is each floor is a different gender.

Kyle: I don't know what you have against the dorms, but almost everyone I spoke to promotes the Commons Dorms like they're the best option. I have a few co-workers in apartments, and they all but hate it. Just wondering, why would one "hate their life" if they lived in the dorms?

Ok, thanks. Where is this Common Dorm? In downtown?

Commons dorms are just before you cross the causeway to Cedar Point.
