OK, so myself and two of my friends are working on the Millennium Force this summer!!! I realize that I will have to arrive at work early if I am opening, but I was wondering just how much early would I have to get there
and what would I have to do??? I was also wondering if they closed the lines earlier than the park gates close because I would imagine that everyone in line is able to go onto the ride but with MF being so popular we could be there until the park opened again the next morning. So I was wondering how that worked, what we were required to do as closers, and approx. how long does all of this take (what time would we actually be leaving after the park closes)???
Thanks for all of your help, we're getting very excited!!!

I would recomend getting to the ride at least 30 min before opening. Probably even sooner because of where you are working. Because I haven't worked a coaster, I would guess that you would be getting the trains ready, cleaning the station, sweeping the qeus, and doing test runs. When they test run, there is at least one test run where the ride ops ride along to help test it.
I am not sure what happens on a coaster for closing. But I do know that the lines will not close early. All the lines close at closing time and no sooner. They then let everyone who is still in line ride. This might mean that you would have to stay at the ride for an hour, mabey more before everyone in the ques gets on. After that, they just clean up, put the trains in there storage areas, and then shut down for the night. I'm pretty sure thats all there is.

Your team leaders and supervisors will most likely judge what a good opening arrival time is. As a team leader last season, I set my opener's arrival time at no later than 9:25 - that gave them 5 extra minutes. Any arrival after 9:30 was marked late. A good friend of mine was team leader of Mantis in '97 and I seem to recall her telling me of openers being there as early as 9 am, but I'm sure every ride is different.

MF will be an extremely popular ride this summer... and I assume that there will be an extremely long line at all times. Therefore, because the lines do not close early I will probably be there for quite some time after the park closes. Has anyone worked a popular ride (Mantis, Power Tower, etc.) the first year the ride opened??? And if so, do you know about how long after the park closes that your shift ended and you were back in your room??? Thanks!!!

I've already done the "big new ride thing" with PT in 98, management would like to see you at the ride generally around 20-30 minutes before the ride opens. For your ride orientation you'll have to be there around an hour early so Brooks and Matt or supervisors can show you around the ride and its procedures. On Saturdays we'll probalby have to be there around an hour or 45 minutes before opening.
As far as closing, at Tower, we kept the line open about 15 minutes after the official park closing, and then we just ran the line out from there Once the line is closed it doesn't take too long to run it out. then we'll have to do some of the closing cleaning, which some of that will likely go on while the ride is still running. But that was Tower, MF will have a fairly high capacity, not like Gemini, but it should move quickly.
