Opening weekend stories

If you were able to attend the park on opening weekend, how was your trip?

Mine was amazing. Myself and a couple friends arrived at 7am to process our passes and had lots of luck throughout the day; rode millie 4 times during my first ERT and then waited no more than half an hour during the day for maverick, maggie, raptor. We got in the TTD line at 8pm because we noticed it was finally running; for 3 hours every train got a rollback except for 2. We never had a rollback, so we decided to wait the 3 hours. I was seated and had the lap bar down and was ready to go when the operator said TTD was closing due to weather conditions, i was speechless. We were offered a pass to skip to the front of any ride at our next visit, I just wanted a rollback :). I was pretty upset after waiting 3 hours and getting taken off the ride as we were on it ready to go. On sunday we waited for TTD so we could use the pass and get the first train and hopefully a rollback. We basically sat on the bench from 9am-3pm because millie was stuck, maxair was down, and we just people watched. So at 3pm we got on our train and while in the first seat, my friend and I put our hoods up, unzipped our jackets, and cupped our hands for maximum air resistance (lol); we ended up getting the only rollback during the hour :) SO excited.

So how was all of your opening weekend adventures? I loved the MAgnum celebrations and plan to have a great summer at the point.

First rollback=opening weekend '09

I got there at 9 a.m. today. I didn't go right on opening day because of the rain. But Raptor was a walk-on so I got right in the very front. After that I headed to Iron Dragon and rode the very back, for some reason that first hill was scarier than the Magnum (maybe it's just because I haven't been to CP in 9 months.. lol).

Rode the train to the back of the park and got on Mean Streak, that thing shook my head badly and felt like I just got beaten up. It didn't feel that way last year.

I then headed to SkyHawk which was another walk-on. I love that ride first thing in the morning. Then rode the antique cars and the swings. Headed to the car for some lunch and to take it easy for about an hour.

Went back to the park and rode Troika and the pirate ship. Then headed to Magnum which was about a 10 minute wait, and I haven't ridden that coaster since it first opened. It was awesome!

I then rode the Witches Wheel and Gemini. The last ride we went on was the SkyHawk again, and my legs and feet are very sore from the walking (not used to it) but it was a perfect day! A bit chilly in the morning, but after 12 or so I was able to take off my jacket and enjoy the sun.. perfect weather! :)

My day was awsome! I got to the point around 8:30 waited at the secret enterance :-). When 9 o'clock came around I decided I would sprint in front of everyone then walk the rest of the time to Maverick, but those people were fast so I ended up running/jogging all the way there! I was so tired when I reached the line and hopped on the front seat and I couldn't even catch my breathe before I was going up the hill.

I then walked by Dragster and was told it would be down for a few hours, so I decided to go ride Millennium. I waited about 15minutes, then I headed towards Mantis. Mantis was really fun, and suprisingly trimless which made for a way better ride! I then headed back to Dragster because it was testing only to find a line to the stands, so I went on Magnum (walk-on), then headed towards Mean Streak, which was a pain in the neck and back and legs and etc. I then went to the front of the park and rode MaXair. It started to mist so I decided to wait for Dragster. 4 and a half rainy hours later Dragster finally opened! I got into the red train with hopes of a roll back only to be launched 3 times. I got a triple rollback. After the third one, our train was sent back to the station to unload the third row inwhich I was in! We steped back in line while our train rolledback another 2 times with two rows (I could of got a triple double) Well 45 minutes and 5 brakedowns later I finally got to finish my ride.

I then headed towards Chic-Fila. Then rode Mean Streak again, this time towards the front. Still bad, and we got stuck on the brake run for 10minutes.

I then headed towards the front for rides on WT and Raptor. I finished my day with a marathon on Mine Ride and SkyHawk.

I had a great day! Ladyjerrico did you ride Mantis? How was it?

This would probably be better suited for the Trip Report forum, but since I am not an admin, I'll leave that for those in power ;)

BTW, I had a great weekend at the park, and will be posting a TR soon.

Ripcord Crew 2002 / MF Crew 2004

Got the first train of the year on Top Thrill Dragster / my first rollback all in one ride. Pretty exciting :)

Rode Maverick in some heavy rain, got on Millennium Force although it seemed down more than it was running, rode Magnum (sign looks good! It looks much larger in person in my opinion). Snuck a ride in on Gemini. Tried riding Mean Streak for some of the new trackwork but it closed down on us (anyone notice if it was better at all?). Rode Wicked Twister in the back. Ended the night with Disaster Transport around 9:00. Wanted to ride Raptor, but it was an hour wait and still wanted to ride TTD one more time since it kept rolling back, but while in line they closed it due to weather around 11:00 after already waiting since 9:30. Bummer.

Was anyone else there when they closed TTD down for the evening? The staff stuck around saying they'd give us ride passes so we could just walk up the exit ramp and get a ride another day, but all they did was take our names & zip codes without giving us passes...

Not sure how they're planning on getting us those passes with just a name and a zip code. I'm thinking it was just a "make the situation seem better - when really - they won't do anything" about it type of thing. Not a big deal for me, I don't mind, but it stinks for those who can't visit the park frequently.

No Pointperson, I didn't ride the Mantis, I chickened out.. lol. But I did ride Magnum for the first time in 20 years.

Who knows, maybe next time I'll get on Mantis. My bf rode it though but he headbanged pretty hard on that thing and he felt sick afterwards. I should have told him to keep his head and shoulders forward but I didn't think about that until I saw him on it.. oops.

Lines were short for most everything yesterday which was good, but I'm feeling the pain today. Lol.

Mean Streak seemed smoother than in the past. Others may not agree, but it was a good ride Saturday.

^^ Congrats on getting on Magnum for the first time since it opened. It must be awesome to have that feeling of the first time riding it lol (well at least in 20 years). BTW, did you see if MF and TTD were up and running at all on Sunday?

^Both MF and TTD were open later in the day on Sunday. And both were actually pretty short waits.

How did you like Magnum ladyjerrico? I had written to you in another thread, but I don't think you saw it. The first time you rode Magnum and it took your breath away, were you sitting in the front seat? Because if I ride a coaster in the front seat (besides indoor coasters), it takes my breath away too.

"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"

Sorry Jesz, I didn't see the other thread. I really liked Magnum. I was scared on the lift hill, but as soon as we went down it wasn't as bad as I remember it was last time I rode it (in 1989). I screamed on most of the bunny hills though.. haha.. I wish the on-ride photo booth was up and running but it was down I guess most of the day. I really wanted to buy a photo. I'll get one next time I go. I have to say I like Magnum more than Maverick though.

Heck, 3 years ago I was even scared to get on Gemini. I didn't ride that one back then. I suppose I'm getting used to hieghts. If I lose enough weight, perhaps one day I'll conquer MF too :)

Keep at it ladyjerrico!

Oh how I love being able to ride coasters again! Magnum is my current favorite, but I have yet to be able to fit on Raptor, MF or TTD so we'll see if my fav changes once I can ride those!

I'm very close to fitting on Raptor. Tried the seat again on Monday. Another 20 pounds and I think I'll make it!

How much more weight loss will it take to get on Raptor, Mantis, MF and TTD?
