Opening Day Weather Forecast Countdown

I wanted to start this yesterday with the 10 day forecast but got sidetracked. Let's see just how accurate weather.com is and how much the forecast changes by the time we get to opening day. As of right now, the forecast for Sandusky on opening day is:

Scattered showers with a high of 63, low of 53. Chance of rain is 60%

This morning around 6:00am when I checked weather.com they were showing a high of 59 for opening day with only a 10% chance of rain.

What a difference a few hours makes

That is so cold.

It's way to early to tell what the forecast is for just over a week in advance. A few days ago NWS from CLE said we had a 40% chance of rain sat. afternoon and sunday. Now we have sunny skies. I would use these links to monitor the status:

Official NWS sandusky Ohio forecast:

Accuweather forecast:

Oh and of course the doppler radar from CLE:

Doesn't matter to me if they do. I'm going down opening day and second weekend.

Goodbye MrScott

Accuweather is probably the worst of all with changing the forecast all the time.

Just for fun this past Saturday I checked the forecast for the Sandusky area for opening day. They were showing highs in the low 50's with rain. They have changed it every single day since then. Sometimes they show highs in the mid 60's with rain, other times it's highs in the 50's with no rain.

I'll start really paying attention to the forecast the closer it gets to May 6th.

It's really to early to tell very accurately anyways. We won't have a good idea until early next week.

exactly...days will be shifted...temps will change...that you can trust. Ohio is just too terribly inconsistent to trust a 10-day forecast.

I'll Betcha Walts already figured out the forcast for opening day. That man can pick up a few blades of grass toss them to the wind and look at the clouds and figure the weather pattern for the next 10 days.

Must be all those years landscaping at the Point.

As a student about ready to graduate with a B.S in meteorology, I can tell you that The Weather Channel(weather.com) is probably the worst website to use when trying to get an accurate forecast. Because they forecast for the entire country, there is very little human interaction between model outputs and forecasts. The best website to check would be weather.gov and select NWS Cleveland and then Sandusky. Also, 180 hours is the absolute limit of predictability. After that, climatology is more successful than models. The best time to check a forecast is about 5 days out and even then you could see a 5-10 degree difference in temperatures. I'll keep you all posted.

Maybe we should post forecasts from the different websites and see who turns out to be the mosta accurate on opening day.
Accuweather says it will be 59 with "Intervals of clouds and sunshine"
The NWS won't have have a forecast until tomorrow morning

Accuweather now is showing RAIN for opening day with a high in the upper 50's and lows in the low-mid 30's.

I definitely agree that it's way too early to know anything for sure. I must be thinking about it too much though because I dreamed last night they had changed the forecast to rain/ICE for May 6th.

I'll still ride in rain or ice..

I sure could use some heavy thunderstorms in a forecast sometime soon. ;)

This is one reason I love this site. We have a good amount of "collective knowledge". :) Ill be looking forward to your input on the weather, daboyes12.

Yeah, daboyes12, what's the weather going to be like on 19-May through 21-May? Inquiring minds (aka dj & MrScott) want to know. ;)

Weather.com now says hi 61 low 53 with a 40 percent chance of rain. They changed "scattered showers" to just plain "showers"
