Opening Day Trains

Yeah whats up with that stupid suitcase ive never seen pop ups on this site before and especially not ones that follow your mouse so you cant read the text. Oh yeah just wondering, why would CP put so many trains on this coaster? I know that is going to be extremely popular but so was Millennium Force in its first season and it only had three trains.

The suitcase is pretty irritating, but an effective work around my StopZilla (...but not ZoneAlarm Pro.)

Top Trill Dragster trains are only about half the size of Millennium Force's trains. With six of these, it will equal about the same as Millennium Force's three.

I think 5 trains, one they will rotate....

All six definately

cuz two trains were meant to function as if they were one train, so that really makes three trains if you think about it.

Like CoasterCorey said, each train is about half the size of a Millennium Force train

I cant believe how annoying that suitcase is, and that we are discussing the blocks again. Coaster Crazy Guy, read all the other subjects and you'll probably find everything you want to know about the ride, and maybe even more.

Although they may not have all 6 trains going opening day, the ride is capable of operating all 6. Top Thrill Dragster 2003's post tells exactly how the blocks work. Just like any other ride, they are capable of running as many trains as the ride holds.

And even if they dont have all trains running, the line will move fast. Xcellerator has 2 trains, and is a bit longer ride, however handles the two fine. The line, also, is very quick, the longest i waited on a Saturday night during the summer was an hour (unless you wait for the very front), and the line was out the entrance gate.

I strongly believe the line will be very quick.

Why are there still disbelievers amongst us even when the facts are blatantly obvious and info is readily available? I mean, how many times must we prove that six trains can be implemented?

This is worse than the people over on Coasterbuzz last year ignorantly refusing that Wicked Twister could hit, let alone come close to the approximated 1000pph. It took the ride actually opening and people timing its interval for them to finally relent.

I'd imagine it's been simulated... extensively. You don't spend $25 million on a ride, only to 'guess' at how many trains it can support. If they say 6, then 6 it is.

If you look carefully at the layout drawing of TTD, you will see that there are only 5 trains on the track (possibly even 4...it's hard to tell). I know this is just a drawing, but I'm still going with 4 or 5 on opening day.

Note to self: Never try to explain things to the GP!

Actually, there are 6. I think the one you missed is the red train on the turn to the station.

There is one on the tophat, one in the staging area, two in the station, and two on the turn into the station.

Why is the 6 train issue being argued? Official news releases from the park say that the ride can run 6 trains, this is not somthing to argue about folks.

Florida may have Disneyworld and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

Yea, I don't think this is anything to argue about. 6 trains means 6 trains.

I am really not trying to argue, but the fact is CP spent alot of money on Mantis for 3 trains, but only 2 operate. (I know that it has been discussed many times before about this issue.) I just hope that they do not run into the same problem again.

Raptor only running 2 trains? Try 3. Although Dragster will be pulling more popularity to the middle of the park, you will still have your early morning Raptor riders. Millennium Force will also be running 3 trains. From what I understand Opening Day isn't the busiest, but at the same time it's not empty either.

I can't see why they would have only one lane open on Gemini, when the side-by-side racing is its signature feature.

At 420 feet up, no one can hear you scream...

Gemini ran four trains last opening day I believe. You'll most likely see it running with one side up until 11:30 or so, then both sides until maybe 6, then one side again until closing. It's not really a good idea to send empty trains on Gemini - especially if the weather is cool.

Last opening day, Magnum and Raptor both ran three and MF ran two because the yellow train wasn't ready. I'd expect that they'll have all three ready this year though.

Oh - and I don't want to know what two trains on DT would be like. Doesn't it normally run like 5?

Isn't it true that Gemini no longer has all 6 trains available. I thought I heard/saw somewhere that they were getting rid of a set of trains. That would be my guess.

Also, how do you think Mantis having Freeway will affect whether or not they choose to put the 3rd train on? Just a quick thought.

------------------
MANTIS ROCKS 2002 & 2003

I haven't heard anything like that about Gemini. In fact, the two trains that were taken off early last year were seen over by Mean Streak being painted I think.

As for Freeway and Mantis - I don't really think that Freeway would have any influence on the potential decision to put the third train back on. CP management probably wants high capacity on Mantis regardless of Freeway or not, but they simply don't believe that the third train makes that much of a difference. While the third train on Mantis is not going to increase capacity by 30-50% like the third train might on Raptor or Magnum, it does increase the capacity some. Ridership for Mantis dropped something like 11% between 2000 (3 trains) and 2001 (2 trains).

Probably about the only thing that might make them put the third train back on is the crew consistently kicking butt and NEVER stacking with two trains. Then maybe they'll give you the chance to run three again.
