Opening Day quick hits

We were only in the park for a few hours today due to my wife and I both being sick, but here's a couple of things I noticed from today (sorry, no rides ... coughing and coasters don't go together :) ):

- Overall, the park was cleaned and ready to go as always. The exception was Johnny Rockets, which looks like it has a long way to go.

- Lots of fresh paint ... Raptor looks awesome!

- Character ride height signs are gone (signs such as http://www.schmidty.com/cpvirtual/rides/monstersign.jpg ). They have been replaced with sterile signs with tons of safety info.

- We had lunch at the Silver Dollar (where portions were drastically smaller than last year). No one seemed to know what the correct Joe Cool Club discount was, so we got 10% off. Later found out the correct answer is $1 off an entree.

- Lighthouse Point was a mess. I feel bad for anyone staying there in the near future. But, there is tons of potential. I bet by June, it could be the best place to stay on the peninsula.

- No more homemade cotton candy? All the stands we visited were selling pre-packaged cotton candy made by Charms. What's next, Ore-Ida frozen french fries at Mr. Potato?

Did you happen to see if Gemini was running backwards?

-------------
Felt the Force 10 times
Today at the park was great!
-Raptor does look great, and was running very well too! Seems like it was moving along pretty darn quickly!
-Gemini wasn't running backwards.. at least not today.
-Mean Streak was running much better than last year as I remember it. Very fast, and less squeak. Mid course brakes still slow it down a lot, but it gets its speed back. Last year I realy didn't like it much, but this year I'll be going back to it.
-Magnum: Awesome as usual despite the morning breakdown.
-Blue Streak - definitely worth a ride! I'm told it was re-tracked, and it flies.

Didn't ride Millenium Force today because of a long wait, so I'll be back on Wed. for some rides there. Anyone have any comments on how Millenium was running today?

-Doug
Park was just awesome except for when we waited and 2 hrs for raptor but it kept breaking down so we finally left becasue it broke down again and I was told by ride ops that it would be another 1-1.5 hrs. MF I got front row my first time of season. Magnm much smoother in the back from last year. Mantis alot better then the end of last year, I thought it was bumpy at end of lest year any one else notice? Mean Streak and Blue Streak were the best rides that they have ever given me today and were both walks ons.

A bad day at CP is better than a good day at work.
Park was in ready to go form today. First ride MF which was awesome after such a long winter. It was a good ride, but was a little sluggish in the turns and the wind seemed to slow us down alot. Mean Streak probably gave its best rides today for me than in the last 5 years I actually caught some airtime. Magnum, excellent as always the new shells look great. Blue Streak was absolutely steller you must check it out this season, looks to have new lap bars. The main arcade has an all new prize area, looks like the old one in fascination, but much more classy than the old one and there are decent things to buy with your tickets. Fasination coupons are valid and each one is worth 50 points.
Walt-

I agree with you wholeheartedly about the little packages of Owens-Corning insulation...I mean the "cotton candy" pre-fab packages. What an outrage to the pocketbook and to the heritage of the Midway. They were selling a similar product at the end of last year. I hope they start spinning it fresh real soon!!

How does the name Shivering Streak sound to you Michiganders?

Although I'm sure that only Carousel Man and myself care :) , they are selling real cotton candy now.
