Opening Day Question

{{{tnioPradeC}}}'s avatar

Hello everyone I'm new (and I must add very happy) why because I just got season passes for the first time (this is a good thing because paying for each trip and going like ten times a year for the past ten years then adding in gas prices...) anyway I was wondering how crowded opening day is in general (shocking I haven't gone yet I'm such a CP lover). Hope to hear soon.

Its busy but not shoulder to shoulder busy.

I guess it depends on what you compare it to. Compared to a Saturday in July, August or October, no, its not busy.

Compared to Sunday or Monday of opening weekend, the park is BUSY.

Usually though, its not bad and there is plenty of time to get in all the riding you want.

Thank you that was what I wanted to know : )

Also be aware that there will probably be a long line for the season ticket office, from what I've heard.

Since everyone needs a photo ID this year you might want to go before the park opens on opening day if you have the oppertunity. It's a 2 1/2 hour drive each way for me, but I'm heading there anyway (gas prices really don't affect me).

Other than that, last year on opening day wasn't busy compared to most weekends. I found out usually in May and October are the lowest crowds.. but that's just from my experience.

I missed my chance to get my pass early two years ago, and waited two hours for my pass on opening day. Never want to do that again.

However, opening day 2006 was a week earlier than '07 and '08, and I didn't find the park itself to be terribly crowded. I thought 2007 was terrible, and I'll tell you why: There's this event called "Music in the Parks" where high school music students perform a few selections for judges at LakeSide or another nearby venue, then spend the rest of the day at CP. Last year was crawling with kids because this event just happened to coincide with opening day. Back in 2003, when I accompanied one of these events, May 10 was the second operating weekend so even with all the students it wasn't too bad.

But Music in the Parks will again be on opening day this year. That's why I'm planning to get in at 9 a.m. with Point Perks and get in a few rides on Millie and Maverick before the swarms of school buses arrive. It's not that the kids are bad or anything; it just creates longer lines when I've already been waiting all winter. :)

This off season has been a long one... For me, anyway.

23 days, people!

The main thing that effects opening is day is 1) weather and 2) new coaster. It's always a bit busy, but nothing compared to summer. And if you can stay till Monday...

I wonder when the first weather thread will pop up.

I don't know what I'm going to do when that happens. There's no FAQ to link to anymore.

Please none of those. Please! I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that we could all do without that nonsense this season.

What nonsense? "What will the weather be like on X"?

Its not like we went out and found people to come and create those threads. Its people looking for information who think that we are any better than the guy being paid to do it at determining what the weather will be like.

I'm just saying that those threads get old. But yes, I do understand why they make 'em, thank you very much! :)

Opening day lines for Season passes are usually generally long. Yes it will be even longer due to the new system of season passes this year

according to what everyone is saying the process might take even less time. Just a quick scan and a picture, no waiting for the id to print out. I would probably say the line goes quicker due to like 10 seconds and you are done. The lines might be gone quick.

Do you steal your gas? ;)

I have the same amount of time to drive. I use a tank to get there and back from pittsburgh. Gas really does not affect me going either.

Must be nice to not care about the gas, I went to get my pass processed because I will be there opening day with people who will not be buying SPs and because its only 75 min (1/4 tank of gas round trip) but I have canceled my once grand plans of going to South Bend for the ND Spring Game and then going to KI on Sunday for Opening Day. There is just no way with these gas prices, I might not even get down to KI this year until October.

You guys are looking at it all wrong. It's not about how much of a tank of gas you use on a trip, its about the amount of gallons it takes for the trip. I get nearly 400 miles to the TANK in my 8-cylinder Grand Marquis. My mother-in-law's car gets nearly the same. The difference? Her car has a 4-cylinder/12 gallon tank, my car has an 18 gallon tank. So, when you say you used a tank of gas, is that 10 gallons? is that 12 gallons? is that 18 gallons? That could range, at my current area average (3.359 in North Olmsted according to AAA), 33.59 for ten gallons to 60.46 for my 18 gallons! So, yeah, if you only have a 10 or 12 gallon tank, these gas prices are higher than what you were paying before, but they're still manageable.

Needless to say, my trips out to the park this season will be far less than they have been in recent seasons. It's going to cost me nearly $22, at current prices, in gas round trip plus any food that I may decide to buy. And that's before the so-called $4/gallon some are predicting this summer.

It doesn't really matter how big the tank is. If you have budgeted for and are used to Tank A and filling up once a week, having to fill it up twice or thrice hurts just as bad to the person who is used to Tank B.
