I feel that it is a stupid decision also.
Top Coasters:
1. Maverick 2. Millennium Force 3. Top Thrill Dragster 4. Sheikra 5. Magnum
ride on ride warriors, ride on
I think it is smart, but it's just unfortunate for those who go on those days.

Maybe it is because of the electricity issues.

The issue is that it cost money for all those rides to be open while the park is just about empty.
What's better? The park staying open to 8, BUT all of the flat rides (ie:Monster, Matterhorn, Space Spiral, Chaos) and non popular rides (ie:Cedar Downs, Midway Carousel, Corkscrew, WildCat, Disaster Trainsport) all close early due to no one riding them?
OR, all the rides stay open and the park closes at 7 since majority of the people start to leave around that time anyway, since school is still in session and the park is so empty, most people have ridden everything by that time?

I like your first idea Gomez, i believe if they kept the major rides open an hour later then they wouldnt be wasting as much money and it would make people happier. I really dont see why they dont do that.

Whose to say that they won't close the rides early with the close time at 7? Not to sound negative because I will be there that Monday too, but I can see them closing them early either way. Regardless, I'm as excited as a donkeys uncle to ride Maverick and finally get back to the park after 6 long months without it.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
I can't see CP taking the route of closing the rides at exactly closing time. I'm sure their policy will always be to close the lines at closing time and run the rides until the line is empty. It avoids ticking a lot of people off at the end of the day.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
Has anyone else noticed on the CP website DATES/HOURS page when one hoovers their mouse over Saturday, May 12th what it reads.......???
"Please note that MAVERICK WILL NOT BE OPEN for early entry ride time today"
So?
New rides, even if normally part of JCC/resort early ride time are not part of it on opening day.
They have the whole opening speeches and first rides to get done and then it opens to the public.
This isn't news.
Goodbye MrScott
John
Yea, they have the Red Cross Rides during that time and lots of press will be there I bet. Its OK for you to line up, but the ride will be opening at 10am instead of 9am.

Just cross posting from this thread:
Hi Matt,
Thank you for your interest in Cedar Point.
Maverick will NOT BE open for Joe Cool/Resort Guest early entry on Opening Day May 12 because the Red Cross auction winners will be riding at that time. Top Thrill Dragster will be open instead of Maverick opening day only, weather permitting.
If you have any other questions about Cedar Point, please call our Information Line at 419-627-350.

Or stay on Saturday night and get in early on Sunday, with no lines *crosses fingers*. Anyone have any predictions for crowds on Sunday?
I don't think I'm willing to wait 3 hours for a ride, regardless of how new it is. As sad as it may be, I may not be riding Maverick this year. I waited 4 hours when Magnum opened.... never again.
I may drive up Monday afternoon just to get my season pass processed (finally!). Probably ride Skyhawk once or twice and get in line for Maverick. Problem is I can't get there until about 5:15. By the time I get my pass taken care of I'd have an hour, due to the cutback on hours. Just can't decide if it's worth the two hour drive and gas to get there....But then, I'd be all set for my May 20th trip and can take advantage of the ERT. Hmmmm......As much as I want to ride Maverick, I also can't see waiting more than two or three hours for it. I just hope it works a little bit better than TTD did its opening year...and the year after....
I'll be honest... I'm thinking lines could be just as heavy for Maverick as they were for MF in 2000. Because although it is not the "Record Breaker" that MF was, because it is shorter in height, it should attract a wider base of people to ride it. This will only be compounded if there are the opening day jitters that we have seen in years past with new attractions. I wouldn't be surprised to see at least a 3 hour wait at times.
Guess we will just have to see in 4 days! Thankfully I will be there Saturday-Monday so I should have plenty of time to give it a few rides...
