Well, as I sit here reading other opening day reports I felt I should share our experience.
Our family of four (myself, the wife, daughter, and son) arrived at the park around Noon. Crowd level was perfect a little bit of crowd for atmosphere but not for any long waits.
We live near the lake in C-Town so we knew to wear LONG pants and pack the sweatshirts...The wind was the only bad part of the weather...we didn't even walk through Kiddy Kingdom for fear of one of the kids becoming a kite.
We rode PLENTY, Blue Streak is giving a great ride this season. Daughter is now tall enough for MF but we decided to ride other things today and have a special MF day later in May.
Enjoyed the "Best Damn Band in The Land" perform at 1p.m. The OSU band just adds to the fun.
We walked the "newly repaved" trail and it was very pleasant pulling the wagon along a smooth surface.
Not a lot of "noticeable" changes to the park but everything looked great and ready for us...(except Johnny Rockets which has been mentioned elsewhere). We too miss the "cartoon" height sticks at the ride entrances.
Rode Gemini, (someday I'll catch that backwards train) and while on Gemini I saw the Spartan Tailgate party and kept "screaming" to the mob but to no avail.
Did see Pete from GTTP and walked into Red Garter and said Hello to Rob:)
Have to mention the meal we had at Midway Market...Now I know we all can't agree/nor understand the pricing of items at CP (sodas are now $2.50 in the machines) but the Midway Market is by far the best deal in the park and one of the best deals you'll find anywhere... With your Joe Cool Membership you buy 2 adult meals, receive one kids meal free...so for $25.00 we fed a family of four, it is all you care to eat along with FREE beverage refills...special GTTP kudos to DCahill for bringing Midway Market to my attention two years ago.
After a very filling meal, we strolled the whole park once more, watched Raptor from every angle possible, (6 year old son LOVES that ride and will sit and watch it for hours...hopefully when he is tall enough he will ride it!). Bought some Knotts Berry Farm jelly on the trail, rode a few whirl and hurls with the munchkins...finally made it back to the car around 7p.m.
Overall, it was another great day at the Point there were only a few indications you'd even know it was Opening Day (some of the rides had slow load/unload cycles which will pick up with practice)It is days like this that make CP special. Not many parks have the dust and grime from a winter scraped away so well on Opening Day
Someone previously mentioned the gardens...can't plant this early in Northern OH or you'll lose the flowers...Hey Walt what is the flower time table?
We look forward to many miles on the Midway this season.
