Opening Day 2002

Jeff, (UCISECPHJNLI) his g/f Lauren and I arrived at CP bright and early at 9am. Once the gates opened it was non-stop fun for me for sure. Off to Raptor (gasp, yes I know) and my big green baby was just FLYING (seat 8-1/2nd train of the '02 season) After finally getting my Raptor fix anything after that was icing on the cake for me, how MUCH fun we were all in store for there is NO way we could have known! It was our little "trio" until we hooked up with Matt, (Sky Kicker) Tony (Tony) and Joe E (Joe E)
from the noon Maggie meeting. Let the fun begin! The weather was incredible, we all "lost" our jackets and coats and I think all of us were sorry we didn't opt for shorts! Since Jeff pretty much covered all the details about the rides let me just add a couple of things.

Raptor was flying but you're not going to get a "fair" statement on that ride from me anyway :)
Mantis was INSANE that "bug" hasn't flown that good since '96. Do NOT miss this ride. New thng this season don't do your seat belt either, apparently the ops want to do it for you to speed things along, We noticed the stacking issue again, and as in years past-its ALL the guests fault for that :(
BS-as smooth as glass again-airtime rocked. Also kind of cool when Rusty said "bye Raptor Jo" on the loudspeaker when we got off :)
Wicked Twister-had NO plans what so ever of riding WT again (20 laps already and thought lines would be insane)
ended up getting 3 (THREE!) laps on it and got to feel all my aching muscles from Thursday start up again! Watching all the 1st timers on it was fun. Did notice the blowing sand when a train goes flying thru so be careful when you're in line by the sand. Also noticed the intense heat that comes off the LIM (or possibly the train itself) didn't feel THAT heat Thursday and considering the weather THAT day it would have been nice! :)
MF-longest wait for this ride, flying as always and did notice there were "dents" in one of the supports before the turn around on the island. Also someone explain to me the 12 yr old ride op?
Mean Squeak-blech. We opted to sit towards the back since hearing the "bragging" earlier in the day from Alex and Dan. I have a bruised liver and spleen again. Running better? The trims were still on the 1st hill and train seemed to be running faster but better? Debatable
No more about the rides, we rode everything worth riding and I successfully dodged PT yet once more! woo hoo! :)Lauren was a true Po!nter riding everything we wanted to, and we even got Matt and Jeff on the GIANT wheel!

:) :) Now to the fun stuff! :) :)

Disaster Transport-We all moaned and groaned about the buck for the 3-d glasses but bought them anyway. Yes it was cheesy and yes there was tons more they could have done with the effects (I want the Robot back!) but we had fun none the less. Beware of the "HGIH voltage"! The ride was the same but think I may have scard some of the group with my antics. I know I spent the whole ride pretty much laughing. We all took a pic with the 3-D glasses on outside of DT-I know I cant wait to see it! :)

Gemini-Great seeing Frank (who just cracks me up anyway) and Sebrina again (LOVE her hair!) We got into separate trains and although Joe E and I were successful in "hand smacking" Tony and I couldn't reach and then Matt and I ended up doing the Gemini "head smacking" which of course was hysterical

CC Mine Ride-High point? Us all screaming "TONY!" in the wooden tunnel to "embarrass" him. Instead he turned the tables on us with his "WHAT???" back at us. I also hit my hand on one of the over passes-had NO clue it was that close and unlike some since I hit it once I certainly wouldnt be stupid and do it again and again ;)

We did see our famous "Mr Skyward" and yes I DID take a picture with him! I put my arm around him and he put his arm around me 2x but kept letting it go. That was my '02 goal to get a pic with Mr Skyward-goal achieved! :)

Tony's goal was to have a seagull "mark" is $300.00 MF jacket-his goal was achieved for him as well thanks to a Maggie seagull in the morning :) Congrats Tony!;)

The quotes of the day:
"Don't look!" "It's the GIANT wheel NOT the big wheel"
"Where's the bongos" "Icee for me - none for you" "He he he he" "Walk really really slow" "Let them sit where they want-they're crazy" "Hi Raptor Jo!" (Of course that one being my favorite!) "Quick-block me!" ;)

People we saw (and I know I will forget someone-sorry) Matt O, Natalie and her b/f Jeff, Jeff P, Alex, Mr Magnum Dan, I think Andrew Hyde, Raptor Dave, Adam, CP Dave, Carl, Donna, Tyler, Jerry (who loved my green hair :)) Bryan E, Janice, Josh, and I also met someone (Chris?) from CB.
Saw tons of ride ops I know too (2 of which asked me if I was going to work there again this summer. No, don't think so)
From Media Day one of my quotes was on the front of the Chronicle Telegram newspaper and a pic of my daughter and I was in the article too. Tony was nice enough to get me a copy of it-thanks Tony! Also thanks for the pics of Janice---I mean Hooper at the podium on Media Day! ;)

I had such a great time hanging with everyone, seeing everyone and being on my fav place on this planet.. I know my great time was due to great company! :) It was another one of those visits that we will be talking about for weeks to come! Surprisingly enough my legs feel fine today but my back hurts-I will blame THAT on MS-no more MS for me!!! He he he

Thanks Jeff, Lauren, Matt, Tony and Joe E for a great time-you guys all rock and I'm proud to be part of your GTTP/CP family!!
Hooper I missed you!

CU@CP!!

Jo,
That Chris you met at the Blue Streak was me. Loved the new paint job on that ride. BS was great in the back seat.
I was there with my son, but as I don't really know anyone by "face" yet, and he was being a "teenager" and didn't want to "meet up", I'm afraid meeting any of you will have to wait for another trip.

We had a GREAT time. Rode everything but MF twice. Raptor was FLYING, and the Mantis trims didn't appear to be on. Best ride we had on that in a LONG time. Sadly, my baby, the Mean Streak, still has the trims, although they didn't seem to be as bad as they were last year.

And..a personal accomplishment for me: I rode the Power Tower drop side. Of course, I kept my eyes closed, but I rode it.

Good Morning Raptor Jo! What a day yesterday! Thanks so much for coming with Jeff and me and making the day so fun. I am a little tired, but not sore at all. I had a blast. We'll definitely have to do it again.

Great report Jo! (Check it out, I'm on at work. Guess I can get on here :) ) LaurenGF2bg, what kinda screen name is that??? ;) I would make a bigger report, but the company says "No internet for you..." I'm a little sore today, a little tired, but that won't stop me next weekend.

"Am I tall enough to ride?" "Shut up, leave me alone..." :)

BTW, where was the ribbon cutting this year??? Anyone? I only have an hour to be on the 'net, so if it's posted in another topic, my bad. I didn't hear the National Anthem, either. That part of OD kinda dissapointed me. Oh well. :)

"Why don't you change your name to Mike?" "No way, why should I change my name, he's the one who sucks."

They did a ribbon cutting on Media Day for WT. I don't know if there was one opening day or not. The national anthem did play - right at 9am. We heard it in front of WT.

ucsigep,

The ribbon cutting happened before the the Red Cross riders took their ride and the national anthem was played right after the rider auction ended. Yes, I am very sore today and very sun burned also. It was great hanging out with Raptor Jo, Joe E., Sky Kicker, ucsigep, and his g/f Lauren.

Me and Sky Kicker not only got the first ride of the day on Wicked Twister, but also got the first ride of the day on Millennium Force! Thanks to the rider auction and Joe Cool. With 4 Rides on Millennium Force and Wicked Twister, 3 on Magnum and Raptor, and the Blue Streak running great with tons of airtime and the weather being perfect with A great group to hang out with who could ask for more! Thanks for A great day and I can not wait for the next go around!

I need to go and get even with some birds now. hehehe.

Jo, I saw your picture of you riding Raptor. I was scanning the pictures for offensive gestures and then I saw you. You really could tell you loved the Raptor from your photo. :)

Haha, I wasn't sure if Raptor Jo recognized me the first time I saw her. I was in line for MF with Natalie and Jeff. But then she made up for it later by spotting me like three separate times and yelling out, "Matt!!!" :)
