On my advice and on what we'd heard on the coaster enthusiast sites, we made our first stop X-Flight. It's a "flying coaster," which means you start off the ride lying flat on your back, then a spin sends you hurtling through twists and turns where you are looking toward the ground! I'd been on X-Flight once before, a few years ago. The ride was much better for me this time, having lost a considerable amount of weight since then.
Next, we headed toward Dominator (formerly "Batman: Knight Flight" in its Six Flags days) which is my favorite coaster in the whole park, a floorless. However, Dominator wasn't running at that time, so OldCPer & I opted to walk to Villain in the Old West area of the park. Villain - like all the rides that day - was a "walk-on". As we roared down the first hill, OldCPer yelled, "I gotta get me some of this!" which had me cracking up. I best describe Villain as a cross between The Beast and Shivering Timbers for both wild speed and layout.
We rode the Double Loop which was kind of boring despite having two vertical loops on it. I actually prefered the Corkscrew at Michigan's Adventure to Double Loop! ;)
Thunderhawk was an interesting ride for us, considering we were the ONLY people on the train! We sat up front and had a private ride since no one else was there. That was cool. Another attempt at Dominator proved to have the ride break down while we were in the station. Still, we got to meet Sarah whom OldCPer had met before at Stark Raven Mad last year. She was very nice and it was nice to put a face with the name for me.
Not much later, CJ, Cathy and the girls arrived (around 1:30) so we hung out with them for the rest of the day. Their girls are 4 and 6 but both were quickly becoming amusement park-happy! While Cathy stayed with the kids at the kiddie rides, CJ, OldCPer and I headed back to Dominator. We detoured to Texas Twister. While everyone else screamed, we were laughing. :) Dominator was as fun as I'd remembered it 3 years ago. Since the others were on the ferris wheel still, we took CJ over to Villain. It was a touch rougher sitting in a seat other than the front, but still a fun, fast ride.
We met back up with the family, and rode Time Warp then went to Big Dipper. This was Rachael's first time on a "big people coaster" and it started pouring midway through the ride! EEEP! That was a nice cold bath! She felt it was a little too fast for her and she didn't care for "popping" much (airtime). With it pouring, we hung out at the exit to Big Dipper, then reconvened with Cathy & Dani under a porch to wait the weather out.
Once the rain cleared, we went back to Dominator so that Cathy could get a ride, then went to the merry-go-round and bumper cars to the delight of the girls. The Beaver Lane Mine Ride was a quick favorite for them, as its a kid-sized coaster. Still, it's wild enough that I let out a scream; I wasn't expecting the first hill/turn to be quite so fast! Hahaha.
Back to the front of the park, we headed to Head Spin. There, we met the ride-op Avalanche Sam, who we both knew from Coaster Buzz. He was super-excited to meet OldCPer (aka CP Lady) which was neat. Head Spin itself... woo. It took my eyes a few seconds to clear and feel like they were back in the sockets, the ride was that much of a "headbanger."
CJ, OldCPer and I went to X-Flight so he could get his ride. We opted to wait for the front; that decision made for a much more fun ride on the flying coaster. That was a blast, being in the front!
As the hour was drawing near for park closing, we went back to the back once more. Bought elephant ears and funnel cakes, then OldCPer and I closed our day at Dominator. We had a near-private ride, the only other person in the train being a new employee, off-duty. We sat up front and OldCPer then understood exactly why I praised the ride so much! Meanwhile, CJ, Cathy and the girls went to the merry-go-round and Beaver Land Mine Ride again. As we stood under the shelter of the merry-go-round at 8 PM, there was a crack of thunder and lightning and it started pouring again!
We waited out the rain until it slowed before making our trek to the front of the park and parking lot beyond. All in all, it was a GREAT day at Geauga Lake and we told the GM so when we saw him on the midway. The best was how friendly the staff was and how clean the park looked. It was never like that in its Six Flags incarnation. So that was great!
